The first British Classic of the season is on the horizon as May brings with it Newmarket's Guineas Festival. First off will be the best three-year-old colts in the land on Saturday as the 2000 Guineas runners burst from the starting stalls ready to try and join some true horse racing greats as winners of the Newmarket Classic. All eyes will be on the Rowley Mile turf on Saturday as the runners and riders get their chance for a historic turf success.
🏆 Newmarket 2000 Guineas Prediction
Field Of Gold was propelled straight to the top of the 2000 Guineas favourites 2025 with many of the best betting sites in the land following his ultra-impressive Craven Stakes win over the course and distance in April. The favourite for this Classic represents a powerful trainer who has never yet got his hands on this particular trophy in John Gosden, but many feel now is the right time for the Clarehaven handler, in tandem with son Thady, to finally bag this prize.
The great Aidan O'Brien has no such worries, with 10 wins in the 2000 Guineas on his CV, and the Ballydoyle supremo has the likes of Camille Pissarro, Expanded, Henri Matisse and Twain possibly in the mix now. Godolphin and Charlie Appleby have won this race twice in the last three years, so Shadow Of Light will be high on the list for many people in their royal blue silks. He won four of his five starts as a two-year-old, including the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket with Expanded behind in second, and could be the latest to sparkle on the Rowley Mile for his lofty connections.

🏇 2000 Guineas Betting Preview
Below you will find our detailed 2000 Guineas betting preview as we ponder three leading contenders for the Newmarket Classic and make the case for victory. Can Aidan O'Brien extend his record tally, or will the recent Godolphin stranglehold gain more momentum? Ahead of the two-day 2000 Guineas Festival at Newmarket, why not check out our in-depth bookmaker reviews as you consider the best options for punting at HQ on the biggest weekend of the Flat season so far.
1️⃣ Field Of Gold / John & Thady Gosden
John Gosden's extraordinary career doesn't lack many accolades, but a 2000 Guineas winner at Newmarket is a very notable omission. Rarely will hopes have been higher than when Field Of Gold steps into the starting gates this time around. The Kingman colt travelled like a dream in the Craven Stakes at HQ in his prep race and, once he saw daylight and hit the rising ground, he shot clear to win by 3½-lengths from Wimbledon Hawkeye and Aomori City. It was a performance of real substance, and the Juddmonte-owned colt sits proudly atop the 2000 Guineas odds with most firms. He can be backed at 3.00 at William Hill to satisfy Gosden's desire for this famous race.
2️⃣ Shadow Of Light / Charlie Appleby
The Champion Two-Year-Old of last season, Shadow Of Light, hardly put a foot wrong and signed off by winning the Dewhurst here at Newmarket. The smart Lope De Vega colt had a bit to do with a furlong to run in that Group 1 event, but he motored home in determined fashion to thwart Expanded and Ancient Truth in a close finish. The manner of that run gives rise to the idea he will improve against upped in trip as at three. His trainer has won this twice in the last three years, and our top 2000 Guineas prediction is for a big performance from this Godolphin colt, who can be backed at 11.00 at William Hill
3️⃣ Wimbledon Hawkeye / James Owen
There are plenty of free bets offers for punters to take advantage of this weekend at Newmarket, and with that in mind, one horse that could be overpriced in the Guineas is Wimbledon Hawkeye for trainer James Owen. He's currently 25.00 at LeoVegas and may represent a solid each-way chance. He finished second in the Craven Stakes at the track in April. The Kameko colt was very eager early in the race and likely made his move earlier than ideal. Meanwhile, the winner came from behind with a powerful late surge. Wimbledon Hawkeye will be less gassy this time, and he did show guts and determination to hold on for second in that Craven run. He has plenty going for him at a big price.
