The 1000 Guineas Stake is a big Group 1 flat race which takes place each year and is open to fillies that are three years of age. This race, which is one mile long, is run on the famous Rowley Mile at Newmarket, with this year's edition scheduled to take place on the 5th of May with a provisional start time of 15:40 GMT. There will be plenty of bets placed on this big race, and below I am going to tell you who I think will go on to win.

🏇 1000 Guineas 2024 Betting Preview

The 1000 Guineas first took place in 1814 and it was won by Charlotte, who was ridden by Bill Clift and trained by Tom Perren. Since it is a flat race, there are no obstacles that the horses and jockeys have to navigate. It was named after the prize money that was on offer, which was an awful lot of money back then. Nowadays, the winner of this Grade 1 race gets to take home a little under £300,000.

The 2023 1000 Guineas was won by Mawj, who was trained by Saeed bin Suroor and ridden by Oisin Murphy. There are no repeat winners in this race since it is only open to three-year-old fillies, so which new horse will write their name in racing history this May? Well, below you can find three horses who I feel have a very good shot of winning the 2024 1000 Guineas and the odds that some top Irish betting sites are currently offering.

1️⃣Fallen Angel

With Ramatuelle and Dance Sequence having both lost on their reappearances, it comes as no surprise to see Fallen Angel as the overall favourite for the 2024 1000 Guineas. She was a worthy champion on her Haydock debut on firm ground, but her unbeaten record came to an end on Sandown's soft ground. She also showed her potential in the Moyglare Stud Stakes towards the end of last year and will be hard to beat in this Grade 1 flat race.

In her short horse racing career, she has run a total of four races and has won three and placed in the other.

2️⃣Ylang Ylang

Aidan O'Brien has a number of top fillies at his disposal with Ylang Ylang being one to keep a close eye on. The impressive filly landed her first two wins in fine style last season, which included a Group 3 win at Leopardstown. She has not had it all of her own way though as she finished in last place in the the Moyglare Stud Stakes. This was just a blip though as she showed by finishing third and first in her last two races - in her last race, she pipped Shuwari in an exciting race. She is a horse that everyone is excited to watch develop, and for good reason.

She had raced a total of five races in her career, winning three and placing in one.

3️⃣ Ramatuelle

This talented horse was one of the top-rated juveniles in France last season as she won a Group 2 and Group 3 race with consummate ease at Chantilly before she was narrowly defeated in the Prix Morny by Vandeek. Earlier in April she had a poor race at Deauville where she was taught a bit of a lesson by Romantic Style, but it must be said that the conditions were not in her favour. However, to still finish second on heavy soil tells us that she has what it takes to stay a mile.

Ramatuelle has run a total of six races in her career, winning three of them and finishing in second place in the other three.

📊 1000 Guineas Winners

When you are considering placing wagers on big horse races, it is always a wise move to check out previous winners since you should never overlook experience. However, horses can run in this race just once as it is only open to those who are three years of age. Still, it is worth checking out previous winners to see who their jockeys and trainers are and whether they have had plenty of success in this race in the past.

🏆 1000 Guineas Prediction

These big races are never easy to predict as there are always a number of runners who are in with a good shout of being victorious. Some punters just pick the horse whose name they like the most, but this is not something that I recommend you do. It is best to do proper research and all clues point to Ylang Ylang having a top run and coming out on top.

She has shown her ability by winning three and placing in one of the five races that she has run in her career. Apart from the success that she has had, another reason why I am backing her to win is the fact that she has one of the best trainers in the world of horse racing. She is trained by Aidan O'Brien, who has won this race no fewer than seven times - as you can see in the table above, he won it three times in a row in 2019 and 2021. With his success as a trainer, it is never easy to ignore one of his horses.

⭐ 1000 Guineas Betting Tips

Now that you know who I am predicting to win this race, I am going to give you some quality horse racing betting tips that you should keep in mind when having a punt on the 1000 Guineas.

Form is Important

You need to find out all about a horse's form before you go ahead and put any money on them to win the race. You would not put money on a football team to win if they have been playing poorly, so it stands to reason that you would not back on a horse that has been underperforming. If you like the look of a horse but find out that they have been pulling up or falling in recent races, then I do not recommend that you place a bet on them. Ylang Ylang has been in some top form in the early stages of her career.

Analyse the Trends

By checking out all of the latest trends of a race you can get a solid idea as to what could transpire when the race gets underway. With this in mind, below you can find some important trends to keep in mind when you are betting on the 1000 Guineas.

  • Only one of the previous 12 winners were favourites, while four of the previous 12 winners started the race in the top three.
  • Five of the previous 12 victors won their previous race, while seven of the last 12 winners had raced in the last 31 days.
  • Nine of the last 12 champions had run at least once at Newmarket, while four of these winners had won at least one race at this venue.
  • All of the last 12 winners had at least one race over eight furlongs under their belt, while four of them had managed at least one win over eight furlongs.
  • Ten of the previous 12 winners had run at least five flat runs, eight had at least seven flat runs, while ten had at least two flat wins.

Consider an Each-Way Bet

If you are finding it hard to pick a winner because of the strength of the field, then you can consider placing an each-way bet. This is where you are betting on a horse to win or place. Since you are basically betting on two outcomes, your stake will be doubled. If your chosen horse goes on to finish in first place, you win both sections of the bet. If your horse places, you will win your place bet only, usually at odds of 1/4 or 1/5.

Ramatuelle showed her class in France last season and has proven that she can run well in conditions that are not really that suited to her. She should have no issues with the conditions on offer in this race, so backing her as an each-way bet is something that you should definitely think about doing. I think she has a good chance of winning, so it would be surprising if she did not end up placing.
