Group F of the 2024 European Championships begins on 18th June with a clash between Turkey and Georgia. Portugal are the favourites to progress in this group, but that second spot of qualification is open with Turkey, Georgia and Czechia all believing that they can progress to the Last 16 of the European Championships. Turkey will be the more favoured of the three teams to progress, along with Portugal, having finished top of their group during the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign. Their opening match will be fascinating versus Georgia who are not only competing in the European Championships for the first time but also this is their first appearance in any major tournament, at the 15th attempt. No matter the outcome in this match or in the whole tournament, the Georgian players will embrace what they have achieved to get here, and the fans will support them in numbers, with a pitch invasion and hours of celebrations following their penalty shootout win versus Greece that got them here. The match will be important for both sides to begin their campaign with a victory and alleviate some of the pressure, and how have Ireland’s best betting sites priced the potential match outcomes?

Turkey vs Georgia Euro Prediction

Turkey were very impressive in the Euro 2024 Qualifying campaign. They finished top of Group D in qualifying, finishing ahead of a strong Croatian side with a lot of major championship pedigree by one point. They only tasted defeat on one occasion in qualifying at the hands of Croatia, in their home stadium, The Ataturk Olympic Stadium 0-2. They avenged this defeat with a win in Croatia later in the campaign, 0-1. They scored 14 goals in qualifying, conceding only 7. Turkey have had mixed fortunes in friendlies since qualifying, winning 2-3 away at tournament hosts Germany in November, but losing 6-1 to Austria in March. They have quality players at their disposal, particularly in the form of Fenerbahce winger Cengiz Under, Galtasaray’s Muhammad Akturkoglu and Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu. Under has 9 goals and 2 assists this season for Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Lig and Akturkoglu had 12 league goals while Calhanoglu was voted Serie A midfielder of the season after contributing 13 goals and 8 assists to Inter Milan’s Serie A title success.

Georgia are competing in the European Championships for the first time after making it through the playoffs with a penalty shootout victory versus 2004 Euro’s winners Greece. The game ended 0-0 after normal and extra time before Nika Kvekveskiri fired the winning penalty, ending the shootout at 4-2 and sending Georgia to Euro 2024. Georgia missed out on Euro 2020 after a playoff defeat to North Macedonia, so finally getting past this stage sparked wild celebrations after the shootout. Georgia are a team with quality also and this is seen in star man Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Kvaratskhelia plays his club football for Serie A side Napoli and has been linked with a move away to the Premier League. Kvaratskhelia contributed 11 goals and 6 assists in the Serie A this season as Napoli’s defence of the title was a major disappointment finishing 10th. He has shown his worth to Georgia scoring 15 goals in 29 appearances for his country. The quality on both sides makes this a compelling match but I am tipping Turkey as they should be more confident after an impressive qualification campaign.

🏅 Turkey vs Georgia: Match Winner

Unsurprisingly, given Turkey’s qualification campaign, they are the favourites with the bookmakers heading into this one. On paper, Turkey are the stronger of the two teams, but as we have seen in major tournaments, before anything can happen, especially with a team like Georgia competing in the tournament for the first time so will therefore have nothing to lose. Turkey are the favourites with the odds ranging between 1.75 to 1.77. On the other, Georgia’s odds range from 4.50 to 4.80. Turkey’s stronger form and quality makes them the favourites for this match amongst the suggested bookmakers.

✔️ Turkey vs Georgia Betting Tips

There are some intriguingly priced markets associated with the clash between Turkey and Georgia, with 2 European underdogs going head to head in a crucial opening group game for both sides. But how can you identify the best value markets or successfully leverage combination betting to your advantage? Here are some tips to keep in mind!

  • Tip 1: Back Turkey to Win: Turkey come into this game as favourites after a strong European Qualifying campaign that saw them finish top of their group only tasting defeat on one occasion. They showed that they were strong defensively, conceding only 7 goals in 10 games, and even keeping a clean sheet away from Croatia, who have shown over the years what a strong side they are making it to the 2018 World Cup Final and 2023 Nations League Final. Turkey will fancy themselves to qualify out of this group, and a winning star versus Georgia will put them well on their way to doing so. They have quality in their side with attacking midfielder Calhanoglu winning Serie A midfielder of the year. Turkey should have enough to see off Georgia with their strong attack but more so from their strong defence, which will make it difficult for Georgia. The best odds on Turkey to win can be seen on Sportaza Sports who are offering odds of 1.77.
  • Tip 2: Back Both Teams Not to Score : As touched on Turkey were strong defensively in their European Qualifying campaign conceding only 7 goals, but scoring only 14. Turkey averaged 1.4 goals per game whereas Georgia averaged 1.16. This Georgia statistic is slightly altered by their 4-0 victory versus Latvia. Georgia will find it difficult to score against a strong, defensive Turkey, and with this being their first-ever European Championship game, there could be some nerves. I expect Turkey to win to nil so backing both teams not score at odds of 1.74 at 20-Bet Sports could be fruitful.
  • Tip 3: Back Under 2.5 Total Goals: Both sides showed throughout their qualifying campaigns that goals were hard to come by in their matches, with over 2.5 goals occurring just 3 out of 10 times in Turkey’s qualifying matches while there was over 2.5 goals in 6 out of 12 of Georgia’s matches, although some of these were heavy defeats. The opening round of fixtures in any major tournament is usually a cagey one, and in this group, this should be no different. Portugal are expected to get first spot but that second spot is more open. Both sides will know how important a win is in this match, and this could lead to a tense low-scoring encounter. Odds of Under 2.5 are best available at 20-Bet Sports with odds of 1.67.
