Slovenia and Denmark kick off Group C in the 2024 UEFA European Championship, as they battle at the Stuttgart Arena on June 16th. These sides are more than familiar with each other, having both advanced from the same group in qualifying, with the Danes only claiming the top spot by virtue of a superior head-to-head record. Their 2-1 victory at Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium ultimately proved decisive after Kasper Hjulmand had previously earned a 1-1 draw in Ljubljana. One thing’s for sure: these sides are evenly matched despite 36 places separating them in the FIFA rankings. But who am I tipping to prevail in Stuttgart?
🏆 Slovenia vs Denmark Prediction
Slovenia and Denmark had identical records during qualifying, with each side winning seven of their 10 matches and losing just twice. However, the former’s narrow defeat in Denmark ultimately saw them finish behind their rivals (despite boasting a superior goal difference), while this was the fifth time they’d been beaten by the Danes in just five meetings.
Denmark also mounted more attacks than any other side during qualification for the Euros (542) while attempting 156 shots on goal and 54 on target (34.61%). Denmark were incredibly comfortable on the ball, too, averaging 64.2% possession per 90 minutes and completing 87.1% of their 6889 passes. Slovenia only averaged 53.9% possession per game, so I expect the Danes to dominate the ball in Stuttgart.
Kasper Hjulmand’s men also boasted one of the top scorers in qualifying in the form of Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund. He struck seven goals in just eight appearances at a rate of 0.88 per 90, with only four players scoring more. He certainly benefitted from Denmark’s excellent wing play, with no team completing more crosses (74) than the Red and Whites.
While 20-year-old RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško also impressed during qualification and scored five goals at a rate of exactly 0.5 per 90, Denmark arguably have a little more depth and quality in attacking areas. They also have considerably more tournament nous, having reached eight of the last 10 Euro finals and the last four in 2020. So, I’m backing them to edge an entertaining game at the Stuttgart Arena.
My Prediction: 🏆Slovenia 1 – 2 Denmark⚽
💯 Slovenia vs Denmark Match Odds
Ireland’s best betting sites have already published odds across a diverse range of markets ahead of the match between Slovenia and Denmark. These include the match winner or result, BTTS and the over/under on how many goals will be scored in Stuttgart. Here’s my analysis of the very latest odds.
🏅 Slovenia vs Denmark: Match Winner
Despite little separating these teams during qualifying, Denmark are the clear pre-game favourites to defeat Slovenia in their Group C opener. You can back them at an average price of 1.75, implying a 57.14% probability of the Danes claiming three points. As for Slovenia, they’re priced at around 5.00 to avenge their 2-1 defeat during qualifying, suggesting that they have just a 20% chance of achieving this goal. Statistically speaking, the draw is the second most likely outcome, with odds of 3.50 implying a 28.57% probability of the match ending in a tie.

⚽ Slovenia vs Denmark: Both Teams To Score
Both teams found the net in five of Slovenia’s 10 Group H qualifying matches. Matjaž Kek’s team managed to keep four clean sheets (including two on the road) and failed to score just once. Conversely, both sides scored in six of Denmark’s 10 matches, as they stopped their opponents from scoring three times and also drew a single blank. Both teams scored in the two Group H encounters between Slovenia and Denmark.

Yes | 2.05 | 2.05 | 1.96 | 2.05 | TBA |
No | 1.75 | 1.71 | 1.70 | 1.71 | TBA |
🥅 Slovenia vs Denmark: Over/Under Goals
Incredibly, the 10 matches contested by these sides during qualifying each yielded a total of 29 goals, at the respective rate of 2.90 per game. Slovenia held a slight edge in both defence and attack, scoring 20 goals (as opposed to 19) at a rate of exactly 2.00 per 90 minutes. They also conceded just nine times (one less than the Danes) at an average of 0.9 per 90.

✔️ Slovenia vs Denmark Betting Tips
There’s plenty of value to be found in these markets, with the pre-game BTTS and over/under odds arguably not offering a true indication of each team’s attacking qualities. But which betting lines and markets offer the most value, and can combination wagers be used to back either team at enhanced odds? Here are some tips to keep in mind!
- Tip 1: Back Both Teams to Score: While the odds imply a 58.47% probability of both teams not scoring in Stuttgart, it’s worth noting that Slovenia and Denmark only failed to score in one of their qualification matches. Neither team could keep a clean sheet against the other either, with a tense 1-1 draw in Ljubljana followed by Denmark’s narrow 2-1 victory in Copenhagen. The past three head-to-head encounters have seen both teams find the net too, so get on history to repeat itself here at the competitive price of 2.05 with Sportaza Sports.
- Tip 2: Back Denmark to Win with Over 2.5 Goals: Denmark have won five of their six previous encounters with Slovenia, and two of the previous three by a 2-1 margin. The Danes alone accumulated an xG value of 2.25 in their most recent victory over Matjaž Kek’s side, and this was without Rasmus Højlund starting in attack. Remember, the 10 qualifying matches contested by both teams also produced a total of 29 goals at an average of 2.90 per 90, so there’s value in backing Denmark to win with over 2.5 goals scored at the enhanced price of 3.00 with LegendPlay Sports. This is highly recommended if you have one or more free bets on your account.
- Tip 3: Back Slovenia to Score Over 0.75 Goals: It appears as though the bookies are underestimating Slovenia’s firepower, especially with the side having outscored the Danes in qualifying and notched 20 goals at a rate of 2.00 per game. They even scored twice when defeating Portugal in a friendly last time out. In addition to the aforementioned Šeško, Andraž Šporar offers a potent attacking threat, having scored three times and contributed three assists in qualifying Group H. So, get on Slovenia to score over 0.75 goals in the game at a price of 1.92 with Royalist Play Sports.
1️⃣ Slovenia Euro Update
Slovenia’s impressive 2-0 win over Portugal was the team’s seventh in their previous nine matches, and it certainly typified their ability to defend deep and hit their opponents on the break. This was evident throughout qualifying, during which they completed a total of 357 ball recoveries and attempted 186 clearances (the most of any team that has qualified for the finals apart from Georgia and Albania). Creative midfielder Adam Gnezda Čerin played a key role during qualification too, contributing three assists and a goal for his country and completing 83% of his passes. However, it should be noted that Slovenia’s counter attacking philosophy was ineffective in the recent 2-1 loss against the Danes, during which they launched just 23 attacks and had two attempts on goal.

Matjaz Kek has already announced his final 26-man squad for Euro 2024, which includes the aforementioned Šeško, Šporar and Čerin. Udinese midfielder Sandi Lovric has also been included in the squad, as although he’s currently struggling with a hamstring injury, he’s expected to be fit in time for the tournament opener.

2️⃣ Denmark Euro Update
Denmark thrilled during Euro 2020, with England needing extra-time to defeat the Scandinavian nation in the last four at Wembley. More recently, the team have lost just two of their previous 11 matches since being eliminated by Australia in the 2022 FIFA World Cup group stages, with this sequence including their entire 10-game Euro qualification campaign. The return of veteran midfielder Cristian Eriksen to the team certainly improved the Danes in possession en route to Euro 2024, as he notched three assists and one goal in just six appearances in qualifying. He also completed 429 of his 511 passes (83.67%) and 22 of his 71 attempted crosses from wide areas.

AC Milan defender Simon Kjaer has made the Danish squad despite incurring a late season thigh injury, and he’ll continue to be assessed in the next week or so. Otherwise, Denmark can call upon a largely fully fit squad for the Euros, although startling omission of 23-year-old Matt O'Riley (who scored 19 goals and contributed 13 assists for Celtic in 2023/24) had raised eyebrows among fans.
