As of writing neither side has begun their Euro 2024 campaign. Slovakia will play Belgium first while Ukraine play Romania before they meet in matchday 2. This is an intriguing group with Belgium being the favourites for this group and it is highly likely that they will finish in 1st place. This leaves the 2nd place spot open for one of Romania, Ukraine or Slovakia to qualify to the last 16 of the European Championships. Slovakia qualified in 2nd place in the Uefa Euros Qualifiers finishing behind Portugal. Slovakia won 7 out of their 10 qualifying matches, drawing once and losing to Portugal twice. Ukraine qualified through the playoffs after finishing 3rd in their group behind England and Italy. They were victorious over Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland in the playoffs to secure their spot in Euros 2024 in Germany. Ukraine will be a lot of neutrals team that they will support in this championship because of what is transpiring in their country at the moment. People will want to see them go far in this championship and they will have a chance to get to the Last 16 with this group being open. Who will get the win and how have Ireland’s best betting sites priced the potential match outcomes?
Both sides will be looking at this game as a huge opportunity to get points on the board to aid their chance to qualify out of the group most likely alongside group favourites Belgium. Slovakia will open their Euros campaign against Belgium so they might be in a position where they need a victory whereas Ukraine have a huge chance to get an early win when they play Romania. Ukraine are the favourites for this one with the bookmakers despite qualifying through the playoffs whereas Slovakia qualified automatically by finishing 2nd in their group. Both sides have lots of familiar faces in the squad but Slovakia have lost legend Marek Hamsik through retirement. Slovakia still have quality players in their side with Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, PSG defender Milan Skriniar and Feyenoord defender David Hancko. Ukraine have quality in their side also with goalkeeper Andriy Lunin coming off a great season at Real Madrid. Premier League fans will recognise Arsenal’s Oleksander Zinchenko and Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk. They are proficient in attack with former West Ham forward Andriy Yarmelenko and Girona striker Artem Dovbyk who has 24 goals in 36 games for Girona in the 2023-2024 season. On paper it looks like Ukraine have a bit more quality than Slovakia and this will be the first tournament Slovakia have played since Marek Hamsik’s retirement in 2023. I am picking Ukraine for this one.

🏅 Slovakia vs Ukraine: Match Winner
The odds for this one are tight with the selected bookmakers slightly favouring Ukraine. Ukraine qualified through the playoffs whereas Slovakia qualified automatically. Ukraine won 4 out of 8 group games and 2 out 2 in the playoffs whereas Slovakia won 7 out of 10 games. It is a slight surprise to see Ukraine as slight favourites because of this but this game should be a tight and exhilarating one. The odds for the match winner from selected bookmakers are below.
In qualifying Slovakia scored 17 goals and conceded only 8 across their 10 European Qualifying matches. In those 10 games they only failed to score in 2 of those games, home to Luxembourg on matchday 1 in a 0-0 draw and home to Portugal 0-1 on matchday 5. Ukraine scored 11 goals in their 8 qualifying matches and conceded 8 goals. They failed to score in 2 qualifying games, away to England 2-0 and home to Italy finishing 0-0.
Slovakia scored an average of 2.13 goals per game while Ukraine averaged 1.38 goals per game. In their 10 qualifying games there were over 2.5 goals in 5 of their games with them on the winning side in 4 of those games. In Ukraine’s 8 qualifying games there were over 2.5 goals in 3 of their games with them on the winning side in 2 of those games.
There are some intriguingly priced markets associated with the clash between Slovakia and Ukraine, as both sides try to get to the Last 16 of the Uefa Euros. Ukraine are the sentimental favourites for many neutrals in this tournament and this one could go either way. Here are some tips to keep in mind!
Tip 1: Back Ukraine to Win: Slovakia and Ukraine is an intriguing match on matchday 2 of the Uefa Euros 2024 in Group E. The result of this match could very much depend on how both sides do in matchday 1. Slovakia has the harder game as they take on Belgium in matchday 1 while Ukraine has the slightly easier task of facing Romania. Slovakia could come into this game under pressure if they are defeated by Belgium whereas Ukraine have a good chance of getting victory versus Romania so could be coming into this game full of confidence. Ukraine have quality in their side especially in the form of premier league stars Oleksander Zinchenko and Mykhailo Mudryk who got the winning goal versus Iceland that sent Ukraine to the Euros. Girona striker Artem Dovbyk is coming off a strong season and has 10 goals in 28 games for his country. Ukraine should have enough to win this opening game versus Slovakia so we are recommending a Ukraine win with odds of 2.12 from Sportaza Sports. Ukraine win price of 2.12 with Sportaza-Sports.
Tip 2: Back Under 2.5 Goals: This game could be a tense and cagey game because of the importance of the game for both sides. The two teams will be desperate to get to the last 16 of Euro 2024 and a win in this one will go a long way in securing that for both sides. Both sides were strong defensively in qualifying with Slovakia conceding just 8 goals in 10 qualifying games with over 2.5 goals occurring in just 5 of these games. Ukraine conceded 8 goals in 8 qualifying matches and conceded 2 goals in 2 playoff games. Over 2.5 goals occurred in 3 of their 8 qualifying games and in both their playoff games. This game will be tense and both sides showed in qualifying that they are strong defensively so there is a good chance there will be under 2.5 goals in this crucial group game. Get Under 2.5 goals at the odds price of 1.71 with Sportaza-Sports.
Tip 3: Artem Dovbyk to score anytime: As touched upon earlier Dovbyk had a brilliant season for Girona. Girona exceeded expectations in La Liga this season finishing 3rd on 81 points and qualifying for next year's Uefa Champions League. Dovbyk has scored goals throughout his career scoring 96 club goals in 201 club appearances for 5 separate clubs. He has also scored 10 goals in 28 appearances for Ukraine. He signed for Girona last summer for €7m and scored 24 goals in 36 La Liga appearances last season finishing as the leagues top scorer. He will be full of confidence and could be the difference in Ukraine winning this one with a goal. For this, price of 2.70 with 20Bet-Sports. This is a great use of any free bets that you may have.
