While Manchester City lost only five Premier League games on the way to a fifth title in six seasons in 2022/23, two of these defeats were inflicted by Thomas Frank’s Brentford side. This included a superb 2-1 win at the Etihad, in which Ivan Toney’s brace capped a superb display of counter pressing and direct football. However, City are on a run of four consecutive league wins since lifting the FIFA Club World Cup in December, while they’ve also been boosted by the return of Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland from injury. But who will win here, and what do Betinireland’s best betting sites have to say?
🏆 Brentford vs Manchester City EPL Prediction
Brentford and Manchester City have only contested 17 matches in their history, with the Bees winning on seven occasions and losing nine times. Just four of these games have been played this century and since Brentford’s promotion to the EPL, with the teams sharing two wins apiece during this time.
While the head-to-head data suggests that there’s little between Brentford and City on paper, however, the same cannot be said out on the pitch. Here, Pep Guardiola’s charges continue to shine, especially in the attacking third. For example, City have outperformed their xG value by an impressive +9.5 goals this season, while their average of 30.67 shot-creating action per 90 is bettered only by Liverpool.
As for the Bees, they’ve missed a whopping 41 big chances in the 2023/24 Premier League, while their goals-to-shots ratio of 0.10 is far from impressive. However, the return of the talismanic Ivan Toney from suspension and improved form of Neal Maupay has sharpened Brentford’s cutting edge, and I certainly expect them to get on the scoresheet against the EPL champions.
Still, the question that remains is will they beat City? Ultimately, the Citizens appear to be hitting peak form at just the right time, while the squad is virtually at full strength for the first time this season. So, I’m tipping what should be a comfortable away win for the away side!
My Prediction: 🏆 Brentford 1 – 3 Manchester City ⚽

🏅 Brentford vs Manchester City: Match Winner
As you’d expect, Man City are the pre-game favourites to overcome Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium, despite the Bees’ double last season. City’s average price of 1.40 also implies a 71.42% chance of an away win, while Brentford’s odds of 6.50 suggest that they have just a 15.38% of defeating their rivals.

⚽ Brentford vs Manchester City: Both Teams To Score
City have looked defensively vulnerable at times this season, especially on their travels. As a result, both teams have scored in 64% of their EPL away games this season, with City conceding 14 times in 11 outings on the road. The Bees have also struggled at the back, with both sides finding the net in 82% of Brentford’s home matches and Thomas Frank’s men winning just 27% of these games.

🥅 Brentford vs Manchester City: Over/Under 2.5 Goals
Between them, Brentford and Manchester City have contested 42 EPL matches in 2023/24. These have yielded a total of 142 goals at a rate of 3.38 per 90, with this higher than the overall league average than 3.13. Both sides have also struggled in the defensive third this season, so the odds imply a much higher probability of over 2.5 goals being scored in the game.

✔️ Brentford vs Manchester City - Betting Tips
The current odds mean that there’s little value in backing City to win or there being over 2.5 goals scored in the game. However, you can explore combination betting and alternative markets when looking to make the most of your bankroll. Here are some tips to help you on your way!
- Tip 1: Back City to Win and Over 3.5 Goals Being Scored: While most over/under betting is focused on the 2.5 goals line, this has the potential to be a particularly high scoring game. Certainly, City should welcome Erling Haaland back to the starting 11 in West London, while Brentford’s last five EPL games have produced 22 goals (the Bees have scored eight and conceded 14). So, there’s some value in backing City to win and over 3.5 goals being scored at Betway.
- Tip 2: Back Ivan Toney as an Anytime Scorer: Ivan Toney’s return has been a huge tonic for the Bees, with the hitman scoring on his return against Forest and missing several chances away at Spurs. Toney’s brace also secured the Bees stunning win at the Etihad last season, while he’ll relish the space created by City’s high and narrow defensive line. Given this and Brentford’s enduring attacking threat, get on Toney as an anytime goalscorer at a price of 3.30 with Betway.
- Tip 3: Back City to Win By Two Goals: The return of Haaland has come at the perfect time for City, while the fit again Kevin De Bruyne has produced three goal involvements in his last two EPL outings. City are certainly clicking in the attacking third of the pitch, at a time when Brentford are struggling defensively and have conceded at least twice in six of their previous seven Premier League matches. So, if you have one or more free bets on your account, consider backing City to win by two goals at a price of 4.50 with LegendPlay Sports.
1️⃣ Brentford Update
Brentford have taken just six points from the previous 30 available to them, following a run of two wins and eight defeats in 10 matches. Only Sheffield United (23) have conceded more than Brentford’s 22 goals during this sequence too, which is hugely concerning for a side that was previously renowned for its defensive organisation and competitiveness. This has certainly led to them being more open in recent matches, leading to a high prevalence of goals at both ends of the pitch. This is unlikely to stand the side in good stead against City, especially with De Bruyne and Haaland back in the fold.

Brentford will be able to call on Sergio Reguilon against City, with the left back unable to face his parent club Spurs last time out. Both Aaron Hickey (thigh injury) and Kevin Schade (groin) could also return to the squad against City, although neither is likely to start in West London. Brentford remain without Yoane Wissa, Frank Onyeka and Saman Ghoddos, who are still on international duty with their respective countries at AFCON and the AFC Asia Cup. Bryan Mbeumo (ankle) is out until the end of March, while full back Rico Henry (knee) won’t play again this season.

2️⃣ Man City Update
Prior to their appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup, City won just one of six Premier League matches between 12th November and 16th December. Since returning, however, they have won four successive EPL games and six in all competitions, scoring 17 goals an conceding just four.
This hints at the type of ominous form that City demonstrated in the second half of last season, especially with Kevin De Bruyne having made a spectacular return in the thrilling win at Newcastle. The prolific Erling Haaland is also ready to start after a 20-minute cameo against Burnley, so City will fancy their chances here.

The return of De Bruyne and Haaland from relatively long-term injuries means that City will virtually be at full strength for the trip to Brentford. In fact, Swiss defender Manuel Akanji is the only potential absentee with a knee injury, although he did engage in full training in midweek and is at least in contention to appear in the matchday squad.
