While it may have taken more than a year to officially announce the bout, the long-awaited rematch between Floyd Mayweather and John Gotti III is nearly upon us. Unsurprisingly, ‘Money’ is the overwhelming favourite to beat his more inexperienced rival once again in Mexico City on August 24th, but the 47-year-old will face a motivated and aggressive contender in the form of MMA star Gotti. In this detailed, boxing betting guide, I’ll analyse both fighters while asking which one is most likely to win?
💯 Mayweather vs Gotti Betting Odds Table
Most of Ireland’s leading betting sites have yet to publish their odds for the bout between Mayweather and Gotti III, although some alternative sportsbooks have made ‘Money’ the odds-on favourite. Some have Gotti as long as 11.00 to record a stunning victory, with his lack of boxing and wider combat experience key here. The pair’s previous bout was stopped in the sixth round by referee Kenny Bayliss, too. I’ll return to upload the pre-fight odds here just as soon as they’re confirmed.

🏆 Mayweather vs Gotti Prediction
While Floyd may not have been quite as active in recent times, he has still contested seven exhibition bouts in five years. In his last five years as a professional boxer, Mayweather fought eight times, so he arguably remains as active today as he was towards the end of his professional career.
He’s also up against a boxing novice in the form of Gotti, who has fought just twice professionally in addition to taking on Mayweather in their earlier exhibition bout. Gotti cut his teeth as an MMA fighter, but he hasn’t engaged in a bout of this type since dropping a decision to Nick Alley on October 14th, 2020.
Sure, Gotti’s side advantage is worthy of note, as is the fact that he’s 16 years younger than his opponent. He will look to leverage these advantages by taking the fight to Mayweather and attempting to outwork him, so I anticipate him pressing forward from the off. From here, Mayweather will use his exceptional movement and reach to slip these punches and counter, just as he did with distinction during the initial bout (and as he has for most of his pro career).
He certainly battered Gotti during the six rounds they shared last summer, with the latter resorting to excessive clinching prior to the early stoppage. So, there’s little doubt that while Mayweather may take a round or two to settle in Mexico City, he’ll once again outbox his novice opponent with ease.
However, this is an exhibition bout, the rules of which dictate that there will be no winner in absence of a knockout or TKO. So the real question is whether Mayweather can stop the determined and durable Gotti III, who has genuine punch resistance and impressive MMA experience?
Presuming that Mayweather is focused and motivated, and given the acrimony that followed the end of the first bout, I’m tipping Money to gradually overwhelm his opponent and secure a late, decisive stoppage.
Mayweather to win!
⚡ Floyd Mayweather Form
This will be Mayweather’s eighth exhibition bout since his formal retirement in August 2017. Prior to this, Money had amassed a perfect 50-0 professional record, winning a staggering 15 world titles from super featherweight to light middleweight. This incredible haul includes three Ring Magazine titles in three distinct weight classes, while Mayweather has served as a lineal champion in four different categories.
Even at the age of 47, Mayweather has lost none of his speed, ring craft or defensive skill. Since CompuBox was developed in 1984, he has also proven to be the most accurate fighter in the professional ranks, averaging a 46% punch connection rate during his career. Incredibly, his opponents have landed just 16% of their punches.
His speed and accuracy also lent itself to a deceptively high knockout percentage, with Mayweather stopping 27 of his 50 professional opponents (54%). His 72.0″ reach is also impressive and enables him to unload a variety of counterpunches on the back foot, which will serve him well if Gotti looks to press the pace.
Of course, Money also dominated Gotti during their pair’s first bout in April, 2023, out landing his opponent throughout before the fight was stopped due largely to Gotti’s excessive holding (although significant confusion ensued as a melee developed in the ring). Mayweather undoubtedly has a significant edge here, and the sense remains that he can win this type of bout at a canter.
⭐ John Gotti III Form
While Mayweather has contested 397 rounds during his stellar boxing career, Gotti has fought just 11 to date. This number includes six against Mayweather, whether the MMA start was distinctly second best and struggled to land anything of note. But does the 31-year-old have any chance against his more seasoned opponent?
Well, he has youth and vigour on his side, and while he falls well short of Mayweather’s breadth of experience, he’s at least three inches taller at 5’11” and recently fought at light heavyweight. In this bout, he weighed in at 175.5 lbs (or 79.6 kg), and he may choose to maintain this weight for the rematch with Mayweather. After all, there’s no weight restriction in place for this clash.
So, there’s no doubt that Gotti will be physically stronger and more energetic against Mayweather, while I expect him to try and push the pace from the outset and impose his greater size. His MMA experience will also stand him in good stead, especially in terms of his strength and durability.
However, he cannot escape his a 2-1 record in the ring, which has yielded a single knockout and a defeat against Mayweather in which he was distinctly second best. Make no mistake: the gap in experience, know-how and skillset is simply enormous between these two fighters, so much will depend on Mayweather’s own physical condition and how seriously he takes the bout.
💥 Floyd Mayweather vs John Gotti III: The Long Road to the Match
Mayweather appears to have slowed down his exhibition appearances since the autumn of 2022 after he defeated YouTuber Deji via technical knockout in September of that year. He then defeated Bellator MMA fighter and personality Aaron Chalmers the following January, with the bout going all eight rounds and ending without an official winner.
In the 19 months since the first clash against Gotti remains Mayweather’s sole exhibition bout. This ended in chaos after the referee’s sixth-round stoppage, with Gotti’s frustration initiating a full-scale riot in the ring and widespread confusion. So, it can be argued that Mayweather’s relative inactivity may count against him, given his age.
Of course, Gotti himself hasn’t been particularly active, nor as he entered the ring since the first Mayweather bout. Prior to this, he has only twice stepped into a boxing ring, defeating Albert Tully by unanimous decision in October 2022 and Alex Citrowske by TKO the following January.
Prior to entering boxing, Gotti also amassed a record of 5-1 in MMA bouts. These fights took place between October 27th, 2017 and October 14th, 2020, with Johnny Adams, Eddie Haws, Josh Zuckerman, and David Espino all defeated by technical knockout. He then beat Marcos Lloreda by unanimous decision, but his last MMA bout saw him lose to Nick Alley on points at CES MMA 61. He hasn’t stepped into the Octagon since.
