An England second-string team would have been eager to show off their skills against Ireland on Wednesday, but the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to some typical Yorkshire weather. Thankfully, the forecast for Saturday at Trent Bridge in Nottingham is looking a lot drier, so there should definitely be some action to enjoy in the second of three ODIs. Before you bet on your favourite betting sites, do yourself a favour and have a read of my cricket betting tips below.
💯 England v Ireland Betting Odds
Cricket is growing in popularity in Ireland thanks to the fact that the Irish cricket team is constantly improving. As a result, Irish bookmakers that are worth their salt will offer a range of markets and competitive odds for a variety of cricket events.
Below you can find the odds that some of the best Irish bookmakers are currently offering for three of the most popular markets for this sport:
Match Winner Odds: England v Ireland
When it comes to the match winner market, what you have to try and do is predict the team that will the game. You will not get odds for a draw in ODI cricket since draws are extremely rare. Below I have provided you with a table that highlights some of the top odds available for each team to win this second ODI.
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
England | 1.13 | 1.09 | 1.14 | 1.10 | 1.10 |
Ireland | 6.00 | 5.38 | 5.60 | 5.40 | 5.40 |
Top Batsman Odds: England v Ireland
If you do not know who will go on to win the match, or you do not like the odds that are being offered, then perhaps you would like to try your luck with the top batsman market. With this type of bet, you need to try and predict the one batsman that will score the most runs for their side in their innings. Due to the difficulty of this market, the odds that are on offer will usually be quite high. Below you can find three batsmen from each team that I feel are in with a good shot of being their team's top batsman.
England:
Player | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Phil Salt | 4.00 | 4.30 | 4.30 | 4.25 | 4.25 |
Zak Crawley | 4.00 | 4.10 | 4.10 | 3.75 | 3.75 |
Ben Duckett | 4.33 | 4.40 | 4.40 | 4.50 | 4.50 |
Ireland:
Player | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Paul Stirling | 4.00 | 3.70 | 3.70 | 4.00 | 4.00 |
Andrew Balbirnie | 5.00 | 5.00 | 5.10 | 4.00 | 4.00 |
Curtis Campher | 5.50 | 12.00 | 12.00 | 5.00 | 5.00 |
Top Wicket Taker Odds: England v Ireland
If you do not feel like putting your hard-earned money on the top batsman for either team, then you can also bet on the top bowler for each side - this is the bowler that picks up the most wickets in the innings. The odds, just like they are with the top batsman market, are usually quite high due to the difficulty of such a market. Below are three bowlers from each team that I believe have a chance of winning the best bowler accolade.
England:
Player | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Matthew Potts | 4.50 | 3.90 | 3.85 | 3.90 | 3.90 |
Luke Wood | 4.50 | 3.90 | 3.85 | 3.90 | 3.90 |
Rehan Ahmed | 4.50 | 5.00 | 5.00 | 4.00 | 4.00 |
Ireland
Player | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Josh Little | 4.00 | 3.80 | 3.80 | 3.75 | 3.75 |
Mark Adair | 4.33 | 3.90 | 3.90 | 4.50 | 4.50 |
Curtis Campher | 6.00 | 6.75 | 6.80 | 5.00 | 5.00 |
🔍 England v Ireland Match Winner Prediction
Unfortunately, since the first ODI was a complete washout, we received no indications as to how things might play out in the second ODI. England have only lost to Ireland on two occasions, and the bookmakers, as you can see from the match winner table above, have England as firm favourites to win the match. However, due to the changes that England have made, I feel that it will be a closer game than many are expected.
Having said that, if the weather stays away, I still feel that this second-string England team has enough about them to avoid what many would see as a shock defeat. Whatever the final result, it will be interesting to see how the less experienced players perform at international level against an Irish team that has a bit about them and will be hurting from not having qualified for the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
My England v Ireland Winner Prediction: England to Win!
✔️ England v Ireland Betting Tips
Let me now provide you with some of my main betting tips for the second ODI match between England and Ireland.
Match Winner: England to Win
I think that this match will be a fun one to watch because I do not expect it to be the walkover that many others are expecting. The Irish team has plenty of quality in its ranks and are full of international experience, which is something that is missing from England's team as many of their top players have been rested ahead of the World Cup in India next month.
Despite the many changes, Crawley, Duckett, and Salt are top batsmen, while Wood, Potts, and Ahmed are some quality bowlers. For Ireland, they will be looking towards the likes of Stirling, Balbirnie, Campher, and Little to cause England plenty of trouble.
I think England will come out on top in this ODI, and if you want to bet on them to win, then TonyBet are currently offering odds of 1.14.
England’s Top Batsman Winner: Zak Crawley to Win
Zak Crawley only has three ODI caps for his country, but the Australian bowlers can tell you all about his ODI potential as he smashed 189 from their bowling off just 182 balls in the 4th Test of the Ashes. He has been given the captain's armband for this series, and he will be eager to lead from the front. His top ODI score is 58*, and I am pretty sure that he will surpass this during this series.
If you would like to put your cash on Crawley to be the top scorer for England, then Palm Slots Sports are offering odds of 4.10 for this market.
Ireland’s Top Batsman Winner: Paul Stirling to Win
Ireland, despite being a small country where cricket is not one of the major sports, have still managed to produce some top batsmen, and Paul Stirling is definitely on of their best. He has played no fewer than 146 ODI matches for the Men in Green, notching up 5,274 runs at an average of 38.21. England will know that if they bowl bad balls to him, he will put them away, and get his team off to a flier. Like most batsmen, he is at his weakest at the start of his innings, so England will be looking to prise him out before he gets himself well set.
If you want to back Stirling to have a stirring performance, then BoyleSports are offering odds of 4.00.
England’s Top Wicket Taker: Rehan Ahmed to Win Top Wicket Taken
Rehan Ahmed has only played one ODI for England in his fledgling career, and it is one that he will probably not look back on that fondly - he only picked up the one wicket and conceded 62 runs. However, in the Test match and T20 games that he has appeared in, he has shown that he has the quality to pick up plenty of wickets. I think that he will be able to cause the Irish batsmen plenty of issues with his spin variation, so I would be tempted to back him to be the top bowler for England.
If you want to back him as well for the top bowler market, then TonyBet are offering odds of 5.00 for him.
Ireland’s Top Wicket Taker: Josh Little to Win Top Wicket Taker
Josh Little is not one of those bowlers that will bowl batsmen away with his express pace, but he uses his smart cricketing brain and subtle variations to cause his opponents a host of issues. To give you an idea as to how good he can be on his day, he is just one of six players who have managed to claim a hat-trick at Cricket T20 World Cup - he achieved this feat against New Zealand, dismissing top batsmen in the shape of Kane Williamson, Jimmy Neesham, and Mitchell Santner.
If you think Little will be Ireland's top bowler, then BoyleSports are offering odds of 4.00 for him to win.

5️⃣ What is the Best Bet in Cricket?
The best cricket bet is something that will vary from one punter to another as we all have different tastes in life. However, personally, the best betting market in cricket is the top batsman. I like this market because the odds are usually high, and it is always entertaining to closely follow your selected batsman and cheer every run that they manage to score.
