The 2023 Irish Open will take place from the 7th to the 10th of September, and there will be many Irish golf fans who tune into the action to place bets. If you are planning on betting on the Irish Open golf this year, then do yourself a favour and read this in-depth prediction beforehand.

🎱 Irish Open Betting Preview

With the BMW PGA Championship being played between the 14th and 17th of September and the Ryder Cup taking place at the end of the month, The Horizon Irish Open has attracted a pretty strong field. As a result of the strong field, the Irish Open odds for the overall winner are very enticing.

However, before you get all excited and jump right in with your bets, allow me to give you a brief overview of three players who I think stand a good chance of taking the trophy and a huge cheque home with them. Underneath each one, you can find the odds that three top bookmakers are currently offering - if you want to find out more about each sportsbook, then check out our bookmaker reviews.

1️⃣ Rory McIlroy

Heading into the Horizon Irish Open 2023, McIlroy is the overwhelming favourite with the bookies, so the pressure will be on him to perform well. The man from Northern Ireland won the tournament the last time it was held at the K Club in County Kildare, so he knows what is needed to be successful on this course. In the Tour Championship, he put in a solid display and finished fourth, so he will be confident in his game heading into the competition.

2️⃣ Tyrrell Hatton

The second favourite to lift the title is Tyrrell Hatton, who finished in T16 position during the Tour Championship. His best result this year was finishing third at the Canadian Open in June, while he also finished fifth in the Scottish Open. His success over the last year was rewarded by qualification for the 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy at the end of September. He finished in fifth place here seven years ago, so he'll not be too wary of the course and should know how best to play on it.

3️⃣ Adrian Meronk

The Polish golfer will enter this 2023 Irish Open Golf event as the reigning champion - in 2022, he became the first Polish player to win a European Tour title. Then at the end of 2022, he doubled his European titles by winning the ISPS Handa Australian Open. However, his good form was not done here as he won the DS Automobiles Italian Open in May this year. The tournament was played at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, the same course that the Ryder Cup will be played on. Despite this, he was overlooked by Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, so he will be eager to put in a very good showing to show Donald that he made a big mistake in leaving him out.

📊 Irish Open Winners

Before you go ahead and bet on the winner of a golf competition, such as the Horizon Irish Open, you should do yourself a favour and check out previous winners of the competition - especially previous winners of the competition on the same course. Winning, as they say, breeds success, and those who are playing in a competition that they have won before will be full of confidence that they can do so again.

Thus, in this section of my prediction, I have provided you with a table that showcases the previous winners of this prestigious golf event.

🏆 2023 Irish Open Prediction

So, who do I think will go on to win the Horizon Irish Open? Well, I cannot look beyond Rory McIlroy, who will enter the tournament as the overwhelming favourite and in pretty decent form. If he gets off to a bit of a flier, he will be very hard for anyone to stop. Some punters are wondering whether he will be distracted by the upcoming Ryder Cup, but I do not think that will be an issue - this is not his first rodeo, so I believe he will be able to put that firmly to the back of his mind and focus on the job at hand.

My Prediction to win the 2023 Horizon Irish Open: Rory McIlroy.

⭐ Irish Open Betting Tips

Now that I have told you who I think will go on to win the 2023 Irish Open, I shall now take the time to provide you with some helpful Irish Open tips as an avid golf fan. I must stress that these tips, of course, cannot guarantee a win. When you are betting on sports, always ensure that you gamble responsibly.

Will There be a Hole-In-One?

A hole-in-one is a pretty rare event in golf. To put it into context, McIlroy has only landed two throughout his whole career - one in 2015 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and one at the 2023 Travelers Championship that took place in Cromwell, Connecticut. Due to the rarity of this feat, the odds that are on offer for a player are usually extremely enticing.

Players will have an added incentive to land one during this competition as a BMW i5 is on offer to the player that manages to land one.

Top Tip 1: Although the chances of a hole-in-one happening are slim, it could be worth placing a small stake on a player to land one as a fun bet. For instance, McIlroy has odds of 101.00 to hit a hole-in-one and, despite the fact that he has only hit two in his whole career, there is no doubt that he has to quality to do.

Who is My Dark Horse for the 2023 Irish Open?

If you do not think that McIlroy will go on to win the competition, or you would like to put your money on a player with some higher odds, then there are a number of other players that I feel have a good outside chance of lifting the title. Such players have been given high odds with the bookmakers because they feel that they have little chance of winning. The key thing to remember when you bet on sports is the importance of finding value.

Some of the outsiders that are certainly worth keeping an eye on include the likes of Adam Scott, Min Woo Lee, and Adrian Meronk.

Top Tip 2: If I were to place a bet on an outsider to win this competition, then I would consider putting my money on Min Woo Lee. The 2023 PGA Tour has been a breakout season for the 25-year-old. Not only did he secure a Special Temporary Membership after some very good showings in the PGA Championship and The Players, but he is also close to securing a permanent spot after finishing in the top 10 of the Travelers Championship and US Open. He plays with swagger and panache and will be confident of doing well here.

Don’t Always Be Drawn by Odds

What do I mean by this? Well, if you look at golf odds, you will sometimes see that one of the players is sitting near the top of the table, despite the fact that they have not been playing that well lately. In such a case, they have been marked down as one of the favourites simply based on their reputation alone.

When you are betting on sports, it is never wise to place a bet based on what a player has done in the past. The most important thing to consider is the form that the players have before they head into the next competition. Before you jump on some high and enticing odds, make sure that you do your homework first.

Top Tip 3: When you look at the Irish Open golf odds you will see that Shane Lowry is one of the favourites to win the title. However, I feel that he is this high on reputation alone since he has not finished in the top ten of a competition for nearly a year. Thus, in such a case, I would not consider putting money on him to win.
