National Hurling League Previews & Predictions

Cork vs Tipperary Predictions - TG4, 4.00pm Sunday 06 April, SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh
Cork and Tipperary have dominated Division 1A in the 2025 National League, with both sides qualifying for the showpiece final with ease. Tipperary finished first in the division, at least in part due to their four-point victory over the Rebel County on February 22nd.
Darragh McCarthy starred for the Premier County at the FBD Semple Stadium, scoring 0-10 with five frees. The 20-year-old right-corner forward also top-scored in Division 1A this season with 50 points (2-44), while he has contributed 30.12% of his team’s total points haul in 2025. The good news for Cork is that they’ve won three successive matches since their defeat to Tipperary, while scoring 11 goals and 97 points. This included a six-goal demolition of basement club Clare, in which Brian Hayes contributed a hattrick.
Hayes is one of four Cork players to register more than 15 points this season, while his total tally of five goals in a National League high for 2025. Cork certainly have a more varied attack, while they’ve managed to score six more goals than Tipperary this season. They also boast a distinct advantage in the historic head-to-head between the two teams having won 98 of the 187 matches contested across all competitions. However, Cork have won just two of the previous six league matches. Despite this and the fact that Cork haven’t won a national league title since 1998, I think their greater firepower and home advantage will prove in crucial in the divisional final. So, consider backing them to win a tight match by between 1 and 3 points at a price of 5.00 with BoyleSports..
🏆OUR VERDICT: CORK TO WIN - BETWEEN 1 AND 3 PTS 🏆
Waterford vs Offaly Predictions - TG4, 1.45pm Saturday 06 April, SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh
Waterford secured top spot in Division 1B on the final day of the campaign, courtesy of an eight-point win over title rivals Offaly. The Faithful County had already secured their place in the divisional final ahead of their trip to Walsh Park, but a 23rd minute red card for corner back James Mahon proved too much for them to overcome on the day. However, they remained competitive and battled throughout the 60 minutes, while their spirited defeat to Waterford was their first in five Allianz League games. They certainly rebounded well from last season’s relegation, with left-wing forward Brian Duignan (0-52) scoring an impressive 52 points at a rate of 10.40 per game during the campaign.
Still, the loss of Mahon at left-wing back will weaken Offaly’s first eleven next weekend, while they’ll face a Waterford side that’s unbeaten in five since a defeat at Antrim on February 2nd. The Crystal County also scored an impressive 12 goals and 184 points in their six matches. The renowned forward duo of Stephen Bennet (1-25) and Padraig Fitzgerald (0-24) contributed 52 points combined during the season, and 13 in the win over Offaly. It should also be noted that Waterford boasted the best defence in Division 1B, conceding just 120 points at an average of 20 per game. What’s more, Offaly haven’t beaten their rivals in five attempts since April 2007, and the divisional final may be a match too far in a season that has seen the side perform heroics. So, I’m tipping Waterford to win here, with a 7-point handicap unlocking a competitive price of 1.91 with BoyleSports.
🏆 OUR VERDICT: WATERFORD TO WIN - HANDICAP OF 7 POINTS🏆
Down vs Kildare - TG4, 1.30pm Saturday 29 March, Inniskeen
Kildare and Down will do battle in the Division 2 final, having finished level on 10 points after six matches. The two also kicked off the 2025 campaign at McKenna Park on January 25th, with Down recording a narrow three-point win courtesy of first-half goals from Daithi Sands and Shea Pucci. Down’s goal-scoring ability was central to their success throughout the campaign. In fact, the side struck 20 goals in their six games, including nine during an incredible 40-point victory over Tyrone on March 2nd. Top scorer Tom McGrattan also contributed two goals and 57 points overall, at an impressive average of 11.40 per game.
Although Kildare scored fewer goals (10) and points (184) than the Faithful County, they did have the best defence in the division. They conceded just 102 points at a paltry rate of 17 per game, enabling them to build a positive points difference of +82. Kildare only conceded four goals during the season too. Forward David Qualter (1-45) top-scored for Kildare with 48 points this season, including a 0-11 haul (with 10 frees) in the opening day defeat to Down. This was one of the best individual scoring performances of the entire campaign, while teammate Jack Sheridan (3-10) has also provided excellent support as a full-forward. Ultimately, Kildare have a slightly more balanced and well-rounded side, while their powerful defence is well-placed to withstand Down’s firepower. They’ve edged the recent league head-to-head with three wins in six matches too, and I’m tipping them to prevail again in what’s likely to be an incredibly close encounter.
🏆OUR VERDICT: KILDARE TO WIN🏆
London vs Mayo Predictions – TG4, 1.30pm Sunday 30 March, Hawkfield, Newbridge
London and Mayo meet in the Division 3 final this weekend, at Hawkfield in Newbridge. The Exiles were the only side to complete their 2025 National League campaign with a 100% record, having won all six of their matches and defeated Mayo by two points at MacHale Park on February 22nd. Mayo were left rueing an error-strewn first-half display in this encounter, as they struggled to find any kind of attacking fluency when playing against the breeze. However, they showcased immense resilience to mount a second-half comeback, with Evan Kelly’s goal for London ultimately proving decisive.
Despite this loss, Mayo won each of their remaining five league games, while they even finished with a superior points difference to their rivals. This was thanks to an outstanding attack, which plundered 13 goals and 152 points (including 10 and 91 in the last three games of the campaign). Shane Boland (2-21) and Liam Lavin (2-18) contributed 51 points combined for Mayo during the season. The good news for London is that they had the best defence in Division 3 and conceded 18 points fewer than Mayo. They also conceded half the number of goals (four as opposed to eight), while their own star forward David Devine (4-26) contributed 38 points for the Exiles to help build on their solid defensive foundations. London are the narrow favourites here, but Mayo are in sparkling form and have won their previous three matches by a combined margin of 34 points. They can certainly be irresistible on their day, and I’m tipping them to win the divisional final this weekend.
🏆OUR VERDICT: MAYO TO WIN🏆
Fermanagh vs Louth Predictions - TG4, 1.00pm Sunday 30 March, St Barry’s GAA, Termonbarry
Not only will Fermanagh and Louth close out the Division 4 season at St Barry’s GAA this weekend, but they also kicked off their respective campaigns by going head-to-head at Páirc Naomh Bríd. Louth eased to a nine-point victory in front of their own fans, although it should be noted that their opponents were depleted and without several first team players. Louth only dropped a single point during the entire campaign, during a tense draw with third-place Leitrim on February 23rd. They also top scored in the division with 144 points, as star forward Darren Geoghegan contributed 57 points in total. His free-taking ability proved crucial during the campaign, especially with Louth having now gone four league games without a goal since February 1st.
Although Fermanagh scored 26 fewer points overall, they actually recorded more goals (six as opposed to four). They’ve also reeled off five successive victories since their opening day defeat to Louth, with the consistent John Duffy contributing 30 points as the side remained hot on the heels of their final opponents. Still, it’s hard to ignore the fact that Louth boasted the division’s best attack and defence in 2025, while the quality in their playing squad is indicative of a team that played in Division 3 last season. So, although the final is likely to be somewhat closer than their previous encounter at the beginning of the campaign, I’m tipping the Wee County to prevail once again.
🏆OUR VERDICT: LOUTH TO WIN 🏆
