Our rating method scores every casino on 10 criteria, each with a fixed weight. The weights add up to 100% and are the same for every casino, so a casino can lead on games or bonuses and still rank lower if its licence or payments are weaker. 🔑 Licences and the Irish Law Position
No online casino can hold an Irish licence yet. The Gambling Regulation Act 2024 set up the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI), and its first licences, for remote betting, took effect on 1 July 2026. Gaming licences are planned during 2027 and 2028, so the casinos we review are licensed abroad.
That is why the licence carries the most weight. It tells you who regulates a casino and where you can take a dispute you cannot settle with the casino itself. We check each licence on the regulator's own register, and a licence we cannot confirm costs points.
