The Northern Hemisphere premier international rugby competition, the Guinness Six Nations Championship is only a few weeks away, and Wales vs Ireland will open the competition in dramatic style. The first match will be on Saturday, the 4th February at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff, with all of the action kicking off at 2.15 p.m. local time.
The referee officiating will be Karl Dickson from England. Karl played professional rugby for Bedford Blues and Harlequins before making the transition from player to referee. He made his refereeing debut in last year's Six Nations competition when he took charge of the Scotland vs France test.
All in all, I think we can expect fireworks from this first match, but whom do most betting sites have as their favourites? Will we see Wales turn around their bad luck from last year or will Ireland storm to yet another win against their home-nations rivals?

At least Wales managed a murmur of joy with a 20-13 win against Argentina to drag them from total humiliation.

In terms of the quality of rugby of both sides, this match-up is something David-and-Goliath-esque. Ireland look to have this in the bag from the opening whistle; they have last year's result on their side, a far more impressive run of results to show for 2022, and total dominance in the world rankings. Moreover, Ireland's Head Coach, Andy Farrell has had time on his side to be able to forge a strong set-up with his team, whereas Wales look all over the place at the moment, considering they have only just reappointed Warren Gatland as Wayne Pivac's replacement - the former having short notice to put together anything of mention for this year's competition. It would be fantastic for rugby fans to see Wales wage a worthy fight in this Six Nations opener, but all things considered, I can only see Ireland walking away with their heads held high.
