Leinster Hurling Championship Format

The championship usually begins in May and comes to a conclusion in June, but in 2021, like it was last year, it has been delayed a bit due to the pandemic. Therefore, the Leinster Hurling League 2021 will start on the 26th of June and end on the 17th of July.

There are six teams that take part in the championship, which usually has a round-robin format where everyone plays every team once, and the top two teams of the Leinster table then compete in the final for the chance to be crowned as Champions.

However, in 2020, the format was changed to a straight knockout competition because of the pandemic, and it will keep this knockout format for the 2021 version. At the current moment, we do not know whether the 2022 edition will revert back to the old round-robin format - we will just need to wait and see.

A draw is carried out to decide the teams that will play each other, with four of the six teams being drawn into two quarter-finals, and the two finalists from the previous year being put straight into the semi-finals. The two teams that qualify for the Leinster Hurling Final will qualify for the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, with the winners entering the semi-final stage, and the runners-up entering the quarter-final stage.

The three teas that come 3rd, 4th, and 5th are put into an All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship draw alongside three other teams from the Munster Championship. Four of these teams, two from both provinces, will then be drawn into a Round One qualifier for the All-Ireland Hurling Championship. The two teams that are not drawn are the lucky ones as they are given a bye into Round Two. The two winners from Round One will then take on the two teams in Round Two for the final two spots in the quarter-finals. Here they will play the losing finalists from the Leinster and Munster finals.

It will not always be the same teams competing for the Leinster hurling cup as there is relegation and promotion in play, with the Joe McDonagh Cup playing an important role in this process. Six teams, a mixture of hurling teams from Leinster and Munster, compete for the Joe McDonagh Trophy and the chance to qualify for their provincial championship. If a Leinster team wins, then they are promoted to the Leinster GAA hurling competition and the team that comes bottom of the Leinster Hurling Championship table will be relegated and play in the Joe McDonagh Cup the following year.

However, you can add some more excitement to this competition by placing bets on the matches.

Hurling is not the most popular sport in the world for sports betting fans to bet on, but any bookmaker that accepts punters from Ireland will offer odds for the big hurling events if they are serious about what they do. The Leinster Hurling Championship is a competitive tournament, meaning that the odds are usually pretty good.

Soon we will give you a number of betting tips that you can put to good use when you are thinking about placing a bet on this tournament, but before we do that, we have provided you with tables with Leinster Hurling Final odds winners and the top points scorer at the All-Ireland Championship.

The second market is an entertaining one to wager on because the odds will usually be very attractive since it is not easy to guess which player will score the most points. Although it is a difficult bet to get right, you should not let the difficulty level put you off as you will still be able to have fun supporting your chosen player in the matches that they play in.

Since the Leinster Hurling Championship is still a number of weeks away from starting, reviewed bookies have not yet given their odds for the chances of each team lifting the trophy and the player that will score the most points. When the best sports betting sites have finally released the odds, we will update the tables below for you so that you can get an idea as to what type of odds are being offered for such markets.

Munster Hurling Betting

Hurling is a sport that is growing in popularity, and this popularity is leading to an increase in markets when it comes to betting on this entertaining sport. When it comes down to betting on the Leinster Hurling Championship, there is a decent variety of markets that you can put your money on. Below we shall take a look at some of the most popular ones.

Match Betting

This is definitely the most popular type of hurling betting market, and it just so happens to be one of the easiest because all you are required to do is try and guess which team will go on to win the match. If you think that the game will end in a draw, then you will be able to bet on that outcome as well. Any respectable bookmaker that has hurling available will offer their punters this kind of market.

Over/Under

There are many different over/under betting markets for hurling that you can bet on. The bookie will give you a number for a specific market, and with these types of wagers, it is up to you to make up your mind as to whether there be a higher or lower amount than the number that your bookie gave you. Popular over/under betting markets include the likes of fouls, total points, and cards. For instance, your sports betting site might give you the number of 4.5 cards in a game, and then you need to decide if you think there will be 5 cards or more (over) or fewer than 4 cards (under).

First Points Scorer

If you have ever bet on a football match in your life, then it is highly likely that you are already aware that you can bet on a player to score the first goal in the game. With regards to hurling, you can place a wager on a specific player to be the first one to score some points in the match. With most bookies, it will not matter how your selected player scores points, just as long as they are the ones to score before anyone else has. Due to the fact that there are many other players that can score before your player does, the odds that are offered are often pretty enticing.

Odd/Even Final Total Points

This is a simple market to place a bet on because all you have to do is guess whether the final points tally at the end of the match will combine to form an even or odd number. This is an even-money bet, so you practically have a 50/50 chance of being correct. This is a type of wager you would make if you were looking to have a bit of fun rather than make a large profit.

Handicap Betting

Handicap betting can come in handy because you will find many one-sided games in hurling, particularly when you move away from the inter-county matches. When a game is predicted to be one-sided, the odds for one team will be very low and the odds for the other team will be very high. There is no point in making a bet when the odds are really high as your chance of winning is a very slim one. Likewise, there is no point in making a bet when the odds are really low because even if you do win, the profit will not be worth talking about.

This is where handicap betting helps because it gives you the ability to add or subtract points from a team before a match has even started, which will increase or decrease their odds. Thus, if one of the teams is a big favourite but you would still like to place a bet on them, you can give them a -6 points deficit to improve their odds. In this case, your chosen team would have to go on to win the match by 7 points or more.

Leinster Hurling Tips

When the Leinster Hurling Championship is soon to start, we will give you some useful tips that we hope will help you to make some type of profit.

Free Bets Offers

So, above we have taken a look at the format of this tournament, the fixtures, the odds for the winners, and the different wagers that you can place, so the next thing we are going to look at is free bets. It is always nice to be able to make a bet on a sport event without having to put any of your own hard-earned money on the line.

Nowadays, sportsbooks will offer free bets to new potential players in order to try and entice them into opening an account. Free bets are very handy since you can place bets without using your own cash, but not every free bet is as good as the last. Thus, it is vital that you do some research before you go ahead and decide to claim a free bet. It is important that you do this as this is how you can be sure that you are claiming the best bonus around when register with a sports betting site. Nobody wants to end up in the scenario where they spend time signing up with a sportsbook only to then come across a number of better bonuses.

This time around, you will be happy to hear that you do not need to sit down and carry out your own tedious research because we took it upon ourselves to do it for you. In the following table, you will find five bookies, and these are the bookies that we feel offer the best bonuses at this moment in time. You can use these bonuses on any sport event, but if the Leinster Hurling Championship is on when/if you register with one of the bookies, we recommend that you use the bonus money on some hurling matches from this event.

N.B> Sportsbooks are changing their bonuses more often than you could ever imagine as this is one of the ways that they can stay that one little step ahead of their rivals. Therefore, there is a chance that the bonuses we have just briefly spoken about in the above table will not be the same as the ones you can see when you visit their website. If this happens to you, we sincerely apologise but we do not have a lot of free time to constantly check for changed bonuses. We do check every now and then, and if we happen to notice a discrepancy, we will update the relevant pages accordingly.

Additionally, all types of bonuses, no matter who you have signed up with, will have plenty of T&Cs that appl. It is in your best interest to read the terms and conditions before you start making use of any bonus.

Previews

Below we are going to provide you with some useful info for the Leinster Hurling Championship.

Kilkenny Will Be Looking for Their 73rd Title

When it comes to Leinster hurling titles, Kilkenny leads the way with a staggering 72 titles to their name. They have also finished in second place on 32 occasions, meaning that they have played in the final more than 100 times. Since the turn of the century, Kilkenny has been dominant in this competition, winning the trophy 15 times. From 2005 until 2011, they won the trophy 7 consecutive times. It is probably not an over-exaggeration for us to say that there will not be many betting against them this time around.

Galway Will Be Confident of Beating Kilkenny

The second most successful team since the turn of the century has been the Galway Leinster Hurling team, as they have won three of the five trophies that Kilkenny did not win. They have a pretty solid team and will be quietly confident of their chances of making a Leinster hurling final date with Kilkenny. If it is Kilkenny that they meet in the final, they will know that it will be a difficult game, but will be confident in their ability to come out on top.

Donal Burke Will Compete for Top Scorer Again

During the 2020 Leinster tournament, Donal Burke, who plays for Dublin, was the top scorer in the competition with 31 points to his name. The runner-up was TJ Reid, who plays for Kilkenny and notched up 25 points. Burke will be pretty confident that he will be able to score the most points once again. If you are thinking about betting on the top scorer, then you definitely would not be doing yourself a disservice if you decided to put your money on Burke. Joe Canning, who plays for Galway, is another player you should consider betting on to be the top scorer.
