The Grand National might be over for another year, but we do not have to wait long for the next big race as the Scottish Grand National has been scheduled to take place on the 20th of April. I Am Maximum became a horse racing legend last weekend at Aintree, but who will claim fame and glory on Saturday at the Ayr Racecourse? This prediction will give you my views on the matter, so let's jump right into it.

🏇 Scottish Grand National 2024 Betting Preview

This is a Grade 3 National Hunt steeplechase race which is open to horses of at least five years of age. This race, which draws in plenty of punters, has been taking place in Ayrshire from 1966 onwards. The distance of the race is just under four miles long, and the horses have to jump over 27 fences before they make it to the finish line.

The very first Scottish Grand National took place in 1867, with The Elk, being victorious, while Kitty's Light was victorious in the 2023 edition - he will not be racing in this year's edition though. Below are the three horses that I think have a really good chance of winning the Scottish Grand National 2024 and their odds from three quality best betting betting sites.

MacDermott finds himself at the top of the odds table due to his impressive victory at Fairyhouse at the start of the month. His jumping was a little bit patchy at times, but he basically dominated the race from start to finish. Surprisingly, it was his first run over three miles on some heavy ground, but that did not phase him at all. He is going to get better and better, which is not good news for his rivals.

This six-year-old horse has run a total of nine races in his fledgling career, and he has two wins and two places to his name. While his early record is not anything spectacular, it is clear that he has a lot of potential.

2️⃣Anglers Crag

This nine-year-old joined the Brian Ellison stable not too long ago, and since then he has become a win machine as he has won all four of his races. This includes a tough race in Newcastle in the Eider Chase in his previous outing. That was his first run over a long distance, and he breezed it. Okay, he made a poor jump on the penultimate fence, but he did not let that get to him and raced to victory. He has 11 races this season, winning five and placing in three.

3️⃣ Stay Away Fay

Out of all the runners in the 2024 Scottish Grand National, Stay Away Fay, a seven-year-old gelding, is certainly one of the top picks. One of his more outstanding races to date was his win at Cheltenham last year in the Albert Bartlett race. In his penultimate race before the Scottish Grand National, he finished third in the Cotswold Chase, while he pulled out in his last run. This is why he is not the punters' favourite.

However, he looks like he was made for this kind of racing, and the conditions should not bother him at all. This season he has four wins and two places from the eight races that he has run in.

🏆 Scottish Grand National Prediction

It is never a simple task to predict the winner of the Scottish Grand National because, like the Grand National, there are always a handful of horses who have a very good shot of winning the race. Some might put their money on the favourite or a name that they like and hope for the best, but I feel that Stay Away Fay has a really good chance.

I know that he pulled up in his last race at Cheltenham, but I do not think that this should be held against him - did you never have a bad day at the office? He is still a quality horse and his stamina along with his jumping prowess will give him a high chance of winning. His failure last time out has worked in our favour as he has longer odds now.

⭐ Scottish Grand National Betting Tips

Now that you know who my winner is for this big race, I am going to provide you with some horse racing betting advice to follow when you are taking a punt.

Age is Important

It is important to see how old a horse is because some races are better suited for different-aged horses. For example, nine of the previous 11 winners of the Scottish Grand National have been aged seven to ten. Therefore, when you are deciding on your top pick, I recommend that you back a horse which falls into this age category.

Weight Can Be Key

The handicap system was put in place to level the playing field. The better a horse is considered to be, the heavier the weight they will be required to carry. By checking out previous weight trends for this race, we can see that ten of the last 11 winners were carrying between 10st and 11st 3lbs. So, when picking your winner, it would be wise to consider such weights.

Pay Attention to Form

You need to know about a horse's form before you put money on them to win. I am sure that you would not bet on a sports team if they had been performing poorly recently, so why bet on underperforming horses? Horses which pull up or fall consistently should be ignored. Stay Away Fay is in great form at the moment, having won 50% of his races this season.
