📆 When Will the Royal Ascot Commonwealth Cup 2022 Take Place?

The second to last day at Royal Ascot features the exciting Commonwealth Cup Group 1 race, featuring a field of highly intriguing young sprinters to kick off a fabulous Royal Ascot betting weekend full of excitement and enthusiasm.

Taking place on Friday the 17th, The Commonwealth Cup, a six-furlong race for three-year-olds, is the first Group 1 event of the day starting at 15:05. Since its inception in 2015, the race has proven to be a popular addition to the Royal Meeting, with several memorable victors, notably Campanelle, the winner in 2021, now participating in the Prince of Wales Stakes on Saturday.

🔍 What to Consider When Betting on the Royal Ascot Commonwealth Cup 2022

When trying to guess the winner, it is important to take several things into consideration. How has your chosen runner been doing in various races ahead of this one? Is its trainer one with several wins behind their back? What are the odds on the horse you are betting on? Here are some factors to think about:

  • Frankie Dettori, who has won the Commonwealth Cup two times in the last seven renewals, is the leading jockey in the race. Advertise (2019) and Campanelle (2019) were the two winners (2021).
  • Consider some esteem trainers this year, including A P O'Brien, Sir Michael Stoute, Richard Hannon, and Clive Cox when choosing a runner to bet on.
  • The race is accessible to both males and females, with male runners producing 5 winners from a total of 77 runners and female runners producing 2 winners from a total of 25 runners in previous years.

🏆 Royal Ascot Commonwealth Cup Tips

The million-dollar question - who would we put our money on? This year's favourite is three-year-old Perfect Power, with pretty perfect odds from Betway - 9/2. Perfect Power is a two-time Group One winner as a juvenile, a good reason to place him in the pole position. This bay colt has an impressive history with five first place positions out of eight races. Perfect Power is trained by Richard Fahey, who has over 30 Group races winners to his name.

This year, Perfect Power has run twice with a result of first place and most recently, seventh place. The most recent race was the QIPCO 2000 Guineas Stakes with a distance of eight furlongs, one furlong (or approximately 200 metres) longer than the Newbury Greenham Stakes. The upcoming Commonwealth Cup is six furlongs, which could be more suited to Perfect Power.

The second favourite this year is El Cabello, trained by Karl Burke. It is also worth mentioning A. P. O'Brien's Tenebrism is also participating in the Commonwealth Cup this year, and experts state this will be a comfortable track for her.
