2000-guineas-prediction

The 2000 Guineas Stake is a prestigious Group 1 British flat race which is open to colts and fillies that are three years of age. This race, which is one mile long, takes place at Rowley Mile at Newmarket and takes place every year at the beginning of May. In 2024, it will be run on Saturday 4th May at 15:35 GMT, so make sure that you have a couple of minutes free to watch this entertaining race. Many horse racing bettors will be putting wagers on this race, and below you can find out who I think will win.

🏇 2000 Guineas 2024 Betting Preview

The first 2000 Guineas took place in 1809 and was won by Wizard, who was ridden by Bill Clift and trained by Tom Perren. You will not find repeat runners in this big race since it is only open to horses that are three years old. So, which new winner will be able to write their name in the horse racing history books when this race rolls around?

Well, below you will find three horses that I feel are in with a really good shout of coming out on top in the 2024 2000 Guineas. Underneath each potential winner, you will see the odds that some of my favourite Irish betting sites are offering at this moment in time.

1️⃣City of Troy

The Dewhurst used to be a top indicator as to which horse stands a good chance of winning the 2000 Guineas, but this is no longer the case. Pinatubo, Wembley, and Native Trail have all failed to win in recent years after having won the Dewhurst Stakes. Chaldean managed to do the double last year and City of Troy has a great chance of doing the same.

He won last July's Superlative Stakes in fine fashion, seeing off Haatem by more than six lengths. He then took a three-month break before coming back and winning the Dewhurst with ease. With his experience of winning on all types of surfaces and at Newmarket, it is little wonder why he is a big favourite.

2️⃣Rosallion

One horse that should be able to give City of Troy a run for his money is Rosallion. After the form that he showed at Ascot last July, much was expected of him when he ran in the Champagne Stakes, but the soft ground saw him weaken in the final third of the race. He put this disappointment behind him though and went on to win his next two races.

Although he has form on his side, he can be a little too keen in races which can cause concern when he is running a trip that he has never won over. His father, Blue Point, never won a race over six furlongs, so this mile-long race might just catch him out.

3️⃣ Notable Speech

At the start of this year, this horse, which is the son of Dubawi, was not on many peoples' radar but he has raced a total of three times this year and has gone on to win the lot. All of these wins were over one mile at Kempton, but he got better and better with each win. He even won the recent Conditions Stakes, beating the highly-rated Valvano. What made this win even more special was the fact that he did so under a penalty. He has not raced on turf, but this does not mean that he is not an attractive prospect for this big race.

N.B. Check out our bookmaker reviews section if you would like to find out more about Spreadex, BoyleSports, or Mr Green. You can also find out about a whole range of other bookies, should none of these three end up being suitable for you.

📊 2000 Guineas Winners

Before you go ahead and put down a bet on any big horse racing event, I always recommend my readers to check out the previous winners since experience can go a very long way in this sport. However, in this particular race, there are no repeat winning horses since it is only open to three-year-old colts and fillies. You can still check out who the most successful trainers and jockeys have been in recent years, which can help you pick out the winner.

So, with this in mind, below you can find the previous ten winners of the 2000 Guineas:

🏆 2000 Guineas Prediction

Big racing events such as the 2000 Guineas are never easy races to predict as there are always a handful of horses who will fancy their chances of coming out on top. Some punters just pick a horse with a name that they like and hope for the best, but it is best to do some proper research in order to increase your chances of backing a winning horse. Nothing can be guaranteed when betting on sports.

City of Troy is the big favourite for this race and rightfully so. When he races at the top of his game, there are not many who can keep up with him. We saw this in full flow last July when he beat Haatem easily in the Superlative Stakes. He has had success on all different kinds of surfaces, which gives him a huge advantage over the field. Another thing that he has in his favour is that he is trained by Aidan O'Brien, who has won this big race no fewer than ten times. It is not easy to overlook one of his horses.

⭐ 2000 Guineas Betting Tips

Now that I have given you my winner for this year's 2000 Guineas, I will take the time to give you some top horse racing betting advice to keep in mind when you are thinking about who to put your money on when the 2000 Guineas comes around.

Form is Important

Check out a horse's form before you bet on them to win. If you think a horse is a good bet to go on and win but find out that they have not won any of their recent matches, then it is best to put your money elsewhere. Furthermore, avoid betting on any horses that have a history of pulling up or falling - although, falling is not usually an issue in the 2000 Guineas since it is a flat race. City of Troy is undefeated in flat races, so he is certainly in form.

Analyse the Trends

If you check out some latest trends you can get a good idea as to which way a race might go. Thus, below I have given you some trends to consider when choosing your winner.

  • Four of the previous 12 winners started as favourites, while eight were in the top three.
  • Nine of the last 12 victors won their previous race before the 2000 Guineas.
  • Seven of the last 12 champions had run at Newmarket at least once, while four had picked up at least one win.
  • Six of the last 12 winning horses had at least one race over eight furlongs, while five had at least one win over eight furlongs.
  • 11 of the previous 12 winners had at least three flat runs under their belts, while all 12 previous winners had two previous flat wins or more.

Consider Each-Way Betting

An each-way bet is a popular horse racing bet as it increases your chances of landing a win. It is a double bet since you are betting on a horse to win and/or place. If your horse wins, you will win both bets, while if they place you will win the place bet, usually with 1/4 odds.

Alyanaabi is a decent each-way bet as his sire had a preference for quicker ground. He has two flat wins and a place from his four flat runs, so he is a decent shout.
