⚽ Leinster Football Team Overviews
There are a total of 11 teams that compete in the Leinster Football Championship, but realistically, when it comes to the Leinster Football outright winner 2023, some of them are just there to make up the numbers. For instance, as you can tell from the above betting odds, the likes of Wicklow and Wexford have little chance of being the Leinster Football winner this year.
In this section of my guide, I shall take a look at five of the teams that I think will be somewhat confident about their chances of going on to win the trophy this year.
▶ Dublin
Dublin always enters the Leinster Football Championship as the clear favourites, and when you take a look at their record in the competition, it is pretty easy to see why. Believe it or not, but they have won this event for the last 12 years in a row. Overall, they have won the Leinster Senior Football Championship on 61 occasions, which is 40 times more than the second most successful team. There are probably not many who will be betting against them making it 13 consecutive titles.
Dessie Farrell, who made 44 appearances for Dublin between 1990 and 2005 has been their manager since 2019 and he knows what it is needed for success as he won the Leinster Championship title on six occasions and the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship once. If you would like to bet on this huge Gaelic Football event, then take some check to check out my All Ireland Football betting guide.
Dublin have had some of the best Gaelic football players line up for them over the years, and their current squad is full of quality. Their star man is Dean Rock, who has played for them since 2013. He is the top scorer for his country and has 10 Leinster titles and 7 All-Ireland trophies under his belt. It is probably not an exaggeration to say that he is like the Cristiano Ronaldo of Gaelic football. Other top players that Dublin have at their disposal includes the likes of Cormac Costello, James McCarthy, and Brian Howard.
▶ Kildare
Kildare are the joint second favourites to be the Leinster Football 2023 winner, and they came so close to picking up their 14th title last year, but were beaten by a quality Dublin side in the final at Croke Park. They have a respectable 13 titles to their name, but their last success in this competition came way back in the year 2000.
Their current manager is Glenn Ryan, who has been coaching them since 2021. He is a Kildare legend as he captained the team throughout its most successful period - he helped them win the All-Ireland Championship in 1998 and the Leinster Football Championship in 1998 and 2000. He came close to leading the team to success last year, but will be confident of going one step further this time around.
Kildare are definitely not short of quality in their squad, with the likes Daniel Flynn, Alex Beirne, Ben McCormack, and Aaron Masterson all having the skill to cause any opponent plenty of issues. Can Kildare overcome 22 years of hurt? Well, if they all click and play to the best of their ability, I would not be surprised to see them make the final again. However, given how the draw panned out, it is likely that they will face Dublin in the semi-finals.
▶ Meath
Meath are second favourites with Kildare for Leinster Football outright winner betting, and they will be hopeful of going at least one step further than the 2022 edition where they were knocked out by Dublin in the semi-finals. They will be glad to have received a favourable draw this time around since Kildare and Dublin are on the other side of the draw. This means that they cannot meet until the final. When it comes to overall history in this competition, Meath are the second most successful as they have been the winner of Leinster Football Championship on 21 occasions, with their last success coming back in 2010.
Colm O'Rourke became Meath's manager in 2022, and to say that he is a Meath legend is a bit of an understatement. He played for Meath for two decades and helped them to claim five Leinster titles and two All-Ireland trophies that came consecutively in 1987 and 1988. He will now be looking to lead Meath to their first Leinster title in 13 years, and with the draw that his team got, he might already have one eye on the final.
Who are the players for Meath that their opposition will be most wary of? Well, in attack they have top players such as Shane Walsh, Ronan Ryan, and Thomas O'Reilly, while opposing attackers will need to get past no nonsense defenders such as Shane McEntee and Donal Keogan. I am pretty confident that Meath can make it to the Leinster Football outright final, but whether they can then overcome the likes of Dublin or Donegal is another matter.
▶ Westmeath
Westmeath are the fourth favourites in the Leinster Football outright betting, but this does depend on the sportsbook that you look at. Overall, Westmeath have only won the Leinster Football Championship on one occasion, and this was back in 2004. They made it to the final in 2015 and 2016, and were semi-finalists in 2022 but were eliminated by Kildare in a very close match. This time around, their first match is against Louth, which should be a pretty engaging and close affair, with the winner most likely taking on Meath.
Dessie Dolan was appointed as the Westmeath coach in September of 2022, so he has not had an awful lot of time to work his magic on the team. He was actually part of the Westmeath team that won their only Leinster title in 2004, and he was their highest points scorer for quite some time. Dolan was a very good choice of manager for Westmeath but, in all honesty, I do not see him leading them to just their second Leinster Senior Football Championship.
Who are the players to look out for in the current crop of players for Westmeath? Well, the first name that springs to mind is John Heslin as he is the top scorer for Westmeath, having overtaken Dolan last year. Other noticeable players for the country include Ray Connellan, Sam McCartan, David Lynch, and Ronan Wallace.
▶ Louth
Louth have won the Leinster Football Championship on eight occasions, but it might surprise you to find out that the last time they lifted the title was in 1957. They made it to the final in 1960 but finished as runners-up, and since then they have only made it to one other final, which was in 2010. In 2022, they met Kildare in the Quarter-Finals, with the latter running out very comfortable winners. They will be desperate to get their hands on their ninth title, but I think if you bet on them to do so, you will not see any return on your money.
Mickey Harte has been the manager of Louth since 2020, and he is considered by many to be one of the sport's best tacticians. Before he became the coach at Louth, Harte managed Tyrone for 18 years, and became their most successful manager by leading them to three All-Ireland titles and six Ulster Senior Football Championship titles. It was definitely a major coup for Louth to convince him to leave Tyrone and become their coach.
Sam Mulroy, Ciarán Downey, Conor Grimes, and Ciarán Murphy are some of the top players that Louth fans will be looking toward to drive them towards the final and their first Leinster Football Championship trophy in 66 years. However, as I mentioned above, I really do not see this happening. In fact, I think Meath will beat them in the Quarter-Finals.
⭐ Leinster Football Winner Betting Tips
When you are making your predictions for the Leinster Senior Football Championship, you can, if you feel like it, just jump right in and put your money on any team to win. However, if this is your main strategy when it comes to Gaelic football betting, or betting on any other sport, do not be too shocked or upset when you end up losing more times than you win.
I have a lot of knowledge when it comes to betting on a variety of sports, and below I have provided you with some Leinster Football outright winner tips that can help you to make educated wagers as well as manage your bankroll. At the end of the day, if your bankroll is depleted, you cannot place any bets.
☑️ Study the Form
When you are betting on Gaelic football, or any other sport, it is important that you check out the form of the team that you are going to be putting your money on. Many novice punters will just dive in and bet on a team because they have heard how good they are, but their reputation really does not mean an awful lot if they are completely out of form. So, before you go ahead and bet on a team to win, do yourself a favour and spend some time checking out how the team and their players have been playing recently. If you see that they are really out of form, it is best to give them a miss.
As well as checking out recent form, you should also have a look at recent head-to-head records. In sports, some teams just seem to have an edge over certain opponents. For example, as an Aston Villa fan, I can tell you that our record against Manchester United is pretty diabolical, so I'd never recommend betting on Villa to beat United. However, on the other hand, our recent head-to-head record against Everton is really good, so betting on Villa could be a wise move when they play in the English Premier League.
☑️ Bet When There is Value
Whenever you are betting, it is important to look for value bets. To put it simply, a value bet is one where the likelihood of an outcome happening is higher than the odds on offer suggest. Bookmakers, to contrary belief, do not know everything, and sometimes they will make a mistake by giving an outcome higher odds than it really should have. To increase your success, you need to learn how to spot the value bets, and the best way to do this is to do plenty of research.
You really cannot underestimate the power of research, and those bettors who do not bother to spend time doing any kind of research are the ones that usually end up with more losses than wins. You work hard for the money that you bet with, so why not just take some time to do some research before you finalise your wager. Knowledge, as we all know, is power.
☑️ Control Your Budget
In order to bet, you need to have some money, which is why it is very important to learn how to control your budget. If you open up your sportsbook account, put all of your available budget on one outcome and it does not come in, then it is game over for your gambling session. Therefore, when you are betting, I suggest that the first thing that you do is come up with a budget that you know you can afford to potentially lose if everything goes against you. Then, decide on how many bets you would like to place, and divide your budget accordingly. This way, you will not end up blowing all of your money on the first bet that you place.
Also, one thing that I cannot stress enough is to never chase your losses. Once your budget has been spent, stop gambling and go and occupy your mind with something else. If you start spending extra money in order to try and recuperate any losses that you have made, then the most likely outcome is that you will just start to lose money that you can ill afford to lose.
🏆 My Leinster Football Outright Winner Prediction
So, with all of the above in mind, what is my Leinster Football outright winner prediction? Well, given the dominance of Dublin over the last decade or so, it really is hard to look beyond them adding another title to their tally. However, the odds for a Dublin outright win are low, and you would need to put a really big stake in order to see a return of a decent profit. Overall, I do not think it is worth betting on them to win due to the odds.
If you are the type of gambler that enjoys taking some sort of a risk, then you should think about betting on Meath. They have a pretty decent team and are on the "easier" side of draw and will not meet Dublin or Kildare until the final. We can see Meath making it to the final, and on final day anything can end up happening. So, although I can see Dublin winning the title, I would put some money on Meath to cause a bit of an upset.
My Leinster Football outright winner prediction: Meath to win.

Many bookies that Irish bettors can sign up with will offer some kind of bonus, usually in the shape of free bets.
In the table below, you can find five top bookmakers and the quality welcome offers that they currently have available. Before claiming any of these bonuses, make sure that you take the time to read the T&Cs that apply.
