Interestingly, the Gunners were one of just two sides to beat Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium in 2022/23, and the only team to prevail by more than a single goal during a superb 3-0 victory on September 8th, 2022.

Arsenal have only lost one of their previous nine matches with Brentford since September 1938 too, although this defeat did come in West London on the opening day of the 2021/22 season (2-0).

Brentford have also outperformed the Gunners in terms of expected goals this season, with their xG value of 22.1 slightly higher than Arsenals (21.0). Because of this, I’m tipping the Bees to spring a surprise and win by the odd goal!

1️⃣ Brentford Update

While a 3-0 defeat at Anfield last time out snapped a three-game winning streak for the Bees, Brentford were highly competitive against Liverpool and missed several excellent chances to score. They also boast one of the Premier League’s in-form forwards in Bryan Mbeumo, who has stepped up superbly in the absence of James Toney with six goals in 12 EPL games from an xG value of 7.2. Remember, Brentford have only lost one of their last 10 home league matches since April too, so the Gunners will definitely have their work cut out in West London.

Brentford are faring well despite a number of injuries at the moment, with midfielders Josh Dasilva (hamstring) and Shandon Baptiste (shoulder) both long-term absentees. First choice left back Rico Henry is also absent with a knee injury, while forward Kevin Schade remains unavailable due to an adductor complaint. Danish wide player Mikkel Damsgaard continues to recover from knee surgery, while talismanic striker Ivan Toney won’t return from suspension until January 2024.

The Gunners have taken 21 points from the previous 30 available to them, winning six times and losing just once during this sequence. However, the team hasn’t won on the road in the Premier League since a 4-0 victory at Bournemouth on September 30th, with October bringing a fortunate 2-2 draw at Chelsea and contentious 1-0 defeat against Newcastle at St James Park. Also, they’ve only scored eight goals in five away matches so far this season, so while Arsenal remain tough to beat, they’re still not firing on all cylinders in 2023/24.

Arsenal may remain without influential midfielder and captain Martin Ødegaard with an ongoing hip complaint, while Emile Smith Rowe (knee injury) is also a doubt. Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey (both hamstring) are also ruled out, with the latter not scheduled to return until the end of the year. Summer signing Jurrien Timber is also continuing his recovery from a cruciate ligament injury, while Fabio Viera is suspended after being sent off against Burnley last time out.
