Sporting Braga will entertain Union Berlin with a realistic chance of reaching the Champions League round of 16, which is something that the team has never achieved in its history. At the very least, a victory here will secure a Europa League spot, while the Bundesliga team have already been eliminated after taking just a single point from their first four matches in Group C. But do I think that Braga will win in front of their own fans at the Estádio Municipal, and what odds are the best betting sites offering on all potential match outcomes?

🏆 SC Braga v 1. FC Union Berlin UCL Prediction

This is only Braga’s second appearance in the Champions League proper, with the team having been eliminated at the group stage back in 2012/13. Of course, this is also Union Berlin’s debut in Europe’s premier competition, but it has been a campaign to forget for the Bundesliga side after successive defeats against Real Madrid, Braga and Napoli in their first three Group C games.

Interestingly, Union Berlin finally sacked head coach Urs Fischer during the first week of the international break, after a torrid run of 13 defeats and one draw in 14 matches dating back to August 26th. This has left the team rooted to the bottom of the Bundesliga and UCL Group C, while their surprise 1-1 draw at Napoli in gameweek four also snapped a 12-game losing streak.

Throughout their Champions League campaign, Union have been starved of the ball, averaging just 32.5% of possession per 90. Conversely, Braga have averaged 54.0% possession across their four games so far, so I expect the Portuguese outfit to control the game from the outset and restrict Union Berlin’s chances in attack.

Union Berlin have only won 39.4% of their tackles and 46.9% of their aerial duels too, while new coach Marco Grote has inherited a group that’s lacking in confidence and desperately short of quality at this level. Braga also have a great deal to play for and have only lost three times at home this season, so I’m tipping them to claim a crucial win here.

My Prediction: 🏆 Sporting Braga 2 – 1 Union Berlin ⚽

💯 SC Braga v 1. FC Union Berlin UCL Match Odds

The sites covered and recommended in Betireland’s bookmaker reviews are all offering a significant range of wagering markets ahead of the game between SC Braga and Union Berlin. However, it’s the win market, BTTS and over/under on total goals scored in the game that remain the most popular, so let’s take a closer look at how they’re being priced.

🏅 SC Braga v 1. FC Union Berlin: Match Winner

Braga are unsurprisingly the favourites to beat Union Berlin, with average odds of 2.25 implying a 44.4% probability of the home side prevailing. Conversely, the Bundesliga outfit can be backed at around 3.00, which means that statistically speaking, they have a 33.33% chance of success.

✔️ SC Braga v 1. FC Union Berlin - Betting Tips

Some of these markets are quite evenly priced, as despite Union Berlin’s enduringly poor form, there isn’t a huge amount to choose between the two sides on paper. So, I’ve prepared some betting tips to help you successfully create value and use your bankroll as efficiently as possible!

  • Tip 1: Back Braga to Win Outright: It’s now 14 matches and three months since Union Berlin won a game, while Braga have won five and lost three of their matches at the Estádio Municipal (with two of these defeats coming against Napoli and Real Madrid). Because of these factors and the relatively even nature of the win market, I think there’s value in backing Braga to prevail outright at the competitive price of 2.25 with Betway.
  • Tip 2: Back Braga to Win and Both Sides to Score: While Union Berlin have only scored once in their previous 689 minutes of football since October 7th, their fans will be expecting some form of ‘new manager’ bounce as Marco Grote takes the reigns as interim head coach. Union Berlin also scored twice during their 3-2 home defeat to Braga in gameweek two, so you could consider backing the home side to win and both sides to score at a price of price of 4.00 with Betway.
  • Tip 3: Back Bruma as an Anytime Goalscorer: I wouldn’t recommend matched betting as a viable strategy here, so you may need to find another outlet for any free bets on your account. One such outlet could be to back Bruma as an anytime goalscorer at price of 3.40 with LegendPlay, with the powerful Portuguese winger having scored twice in this season’s UCL from just six shots on goal and an xG value of 0.3.

1️⃣ SC Braga Update

Braga have only lost two out of their previous nine games in all competitions, while Napoli were the last team to defeat the Portuguese outfit other than Real Madrid (this game finished 2-1 to the Neapolitans on September 20th). Make no mistake; the side boasts both a potent attack (including the aforementioned Bruma) and marked defensive vulnerabilities, having scored 48 and conceded 30 goals in their 21 matches across all competitions this season. Ultimately, Braga’s matches in 2023/24 have yielded 78 goals at a rate of 3.71 per game, so their clash should with Union Berlins should be as entertaining as it is tense.

At the time of writing, Braga had no known injuries or suspensions to contend with ahead of the visit of Union Berlin. This means that they’ll have a fully fit squad to choose from as they look to keep their hopes of UCL qualification alive!

2️⃣ Union Berlin Update

While Union Berlin started their season with three successive wins, they then embarked on a 12-game losing streak that has left them rooted to the bottom of both the Bundesliga and Champions League Group C. While their unexpected 1-1 draw at Napoli snapped this run, they’ve lost 13 of their previous 14 matches since August 26th and have a win percentage of just 17.65% across all competitions. Dating back to the beginning of April, they’ve only won six of their 25 matches, although the club will hope that new interim coach Marco Grote will have an immediate impact in the role!

While midfielder Rani Khedira is serving a domestic suspension, he is available for the UCL clash with Braga in Portugal. However, midfielder András Schäfer remains a long-term absentee as he continues his recovery from foot surgery, while centre back Danilho Doekhi has a minor knock and may be unavailable for selection.
