After a hard-earned 2-1 win in Seville on October 24th, Arsenal are in pole position to claim the top spot in Champions League Group B and qualify for the round of 16. A victory over the same opponents at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday 8th November could even secure the Gunners’ passage to the knockout stages if Lens also beat PSV, while such a result would also eliminate Sevilla. But will Arsenal deliver on their status as the football betting favourites or can the La Liga side secure a potentially crucial win? Read on to find out my own Champions League prediction!

🏆 Arsenal v Sevilla UCL Prediction

Arsenal have now won two of their three competitive encounters with Sevilla, with the La Liga outfit’s sole victory coming at a raucous Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán during the 2007/08 group stages. However, Sevilla have competed far more regularly in the UCL of late, with this campaign seeing the Gunners participate in Europe’s premier club competition for the first time since the 2016/17 season.

Interestingly, the reverse fixture on October 24th was close and keenly contested, with Sevilla claiming a higher share of possession (57% vs 43%) but Arsenal attempting more shots on goal (14 vs 11). The course of the game was also influenced by the fact that the Gunners had built a 2-0 lead by the 53rd minute, with Sevilla subsequently dominating the ball as Mikel Arteta’s men dropped into a more compact defensive shape.

Sevilla may also be encouraged by the Gunners’ recent form, which has seen them lose consecutive games at West Ham and Newcastle respectively. However, Sevilla are currently winless in five La Liga matches and have triumphed just once in their last eight games overall, while their xG value of 2.9 in three UCL encounters betrays their relative lack of creativity. So, I’m tipping the Gunners to win in a game where both sides score!

My Prediction: 🏆Arsenal 3 Sevilla 1⚽

🏅 Arsenal v Sevilla: Match Winner

The Gunners are heavy favourites to beat Sevilla in North London, and the Spanish side’s sustained run of poor form offers plenty of justification for this. But what odds can you get on an away victory at the Emirates Stadium?

⚽ Arsenal v Sevilla: Both Teams To Score

For all of Sevilla’s struggles this season, the La Liga side have scored in all but one of the matches across all competitions this season (a 0-0 draw with Osasuna on September 23rd). As for the Gunners, they drew their first blank of the 2023/24 campaign when losing 1-0 at Newcastle last time out, after previously scoring in 17 consecutive games.

✔️ Arsenal v Sevilla - Betting Tips

When it comes to successfully leveraging these markets, you could potentially use free bets and welcome offers to optimise your returns. I’ve also prepared some expert betting tips to help you create value in the available markets. Looking for additional tips and techniques? • Back Arsenal to Win With Over 3.5 Goals Scored: Arsenal are clear odds-on favourites to beat a struggling Sevilla side, but combination betting may allow you to back the Gunners at a much higher price. For example, you can bet on Arsenal to win with more than 3.5 goals scored at the competitive price of 2.30 with Betway, with this more than reasonable given the Gunner’s strike rate of 2.85 goals per game at the Emirates this season and Sevilla’s enduring threat in transition.
  • Bet on Gabriel Martinelli to Score First: While Gabriel Martinelli has only scored twice so far this season, one of these goals was the opener in Arsenal’s 2-1 win at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán in October. He certainly looked to have the measure of Sevilla right back Jesus Navas, who’s now 37 years old and still best known as a wide midfielder. So, Martinelli could prove to be a key outlet again in North London, while you can back the Brazilian winger to score first at the generous price of 7.00 with Dachabet.
  • Back Arsenal to Win With a Handicap of -1.5 Goals: While the Gunners have so far struggled to achieve the same balance and fluidity that characterised their play last season, they tend to offer a much greater goal threat at home. As for Sevilla, they’ve only triumphed in one of their last 10 away matches dating back to May 14th, so there’s some value in backing Arsenal to win with a nominal handicap of -1.5 goals. You can get on this market at a price of 2.15 with LegendPlay.

1️⃣ Arsenal Update

Arsenal’s fiery and controversial 1-0 loss to Newcastle was their first defeat in 12 Premier League games, although it followed a similarly disappointing 3-1 beating by West Ham as they were dumped out of the EFL Cup. Overall, the Gunners have won two and lost two of their previous five games since the most recent international break, as manager Mikel Arteta struggles to identify his best starting 11 and find the ideal position for his enigmatic £65 million forward Kai Havertz. However, the Gunners thumped PSV 4-0 in their opening home game of this season’s Champions League campaign, while Sheffield United were also vanquished 5-0 at the Emirates on October 28th.

While there remain doubts surrounding Bukayo Saka’s short-term fitness as he continues to grapple with a thigh complaint, he’s expected to start at the Emirates against Sevilla. As is Martin Ødegaard, who missed out against the Magpies with a slight knock. However, Dutch defender Jurrien Timber remains sidelined, as he continues his recovery from a cruciate ligament rupture sustained on August 13th, while Gabriel Jesus may also be unavailable with a niggling hamstring strain.

2️⃣ Sevilla Update

Sevilla remain in a largely frustrating run of form, as while they’ve lost three of their last 10 games in La Liga, their tally of just two wins and five draws means that they’ve only taken 11 points from a possible 30. They’re also winless in three UCL games this season and have won just two of their last 15 Champions League matches, while they continue to struggle offensively in this tournament. In fact, their expected goals tally of 2.9 is the fifth lowest in the 2023/24 tournament, while they’re similarly ranked when it comes to the number of shot-creating actions produced per 90 (17.67).

Sevilla may be without experienced centre-back pair Marcao and Sergio Ramos against Arsenal, as they struggle with muscle and leg injuries respectively. The 36-year-old defensive midfielder Fernando is also a doubt with a groin injury, which was picked up in training and prior to the La Liga game against Celta Vigo.
