Each year boxing betting fans all over the world keep a close lookout for fights that are bound to be extremely interesting to watch and bet on, and one fight that could be happening this year that definitely fits into this category is Logan Paul taking on Iron Mike Tyson. The date of the fight has not yet been agreed, and Paul is not expected to return to the ring until at least April or May, so there is a chance that it will be fought around that time of the year. Below we are going to give an insight into both fighters and what the likely outcome will be if the fight went ahead.
Logan Paul Preview
Logan Paul, to date, has had one professional fight and he lost this match on points. His first professional fight lasted six rounds, and it was against KSI, who, for those who do not know, is another popular YouTuber. This fight took place on the 9th of November 2019 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, United States. This was actually his second fight against KSI, but the first one was an amateur fight that ended in a majority draw.
As well as KSI, Paul has had one other fight and this was an exhibition fight against no other than Floyd Mayweather Junior, who fought 50 professional fights and did not lose a single one - 27 by knockout and 23 by decision. Many boxing fans thought that he would end up getting destroyed by Mayweather, but he actually managed to hold his own, although we must stress that Mayweather is no longer as good as he used to be and lasted the whole eight rounds. Since this was just an exhibition match, no winner was declared.
Paul fights using a traditional orthodox stance, and this means that he is dominant with his right hand when he is in the ring. The American stands at six foot two inches (188cm) and has a reach of 76 inches (193cm), which is something that definitely gives him an advantage when he is fighting. A long reach means that he can stay a safe distance from his opponent and still land some devastating body blows when he gets the chance.
Mike Tyson Preview
Now, we can understand if you have not heard of Logan Paul, but if you have not heard of Mike Tyson, then we would have to assume that you have been living somewhere with no access to the outside world for the last few decades. Tyson, who at 55 is more than double the age of Paul, has fought in 56 professional fights, and his record highlights just how good he was. In fact, he is considered by many to be the best heavyweight boxer ever.
In these 56 bouts, he has been victorious on 50 occasions, with 44 of these wins coming by the way of knockout. They do not call him "Iron Mike" or "The Baddest Man on the Planet" for the sake of it. This means that a staggering 88% of his wins in the ring have been courtesy of a knockout.
What about his six defeats? Well, in five of them he was stopped by his opponent and in the other one he was disqualified for biting the ear of his opponent. There are only four men who are able to say that they beat the great Mike Tyson, and these are Kevin McBride (retired hurt), Danny Williams (KO), Lennox Lewis (KO), and Evander Hollyfield (TKO and DQ).
Tyson's last fight was an exhibition match against Roy Jones Junior on the 28th of November 2020 that took place in California in the US. The fight was eight rounds and neither fighter could get the better of the other, so the judges declared that it was a split draw. However, before this exhibition bout, he had not fought for 14 years, with his previous match also being a four-round exhibition fight against Corey Sanders on the 20th of October 2006. His last professional fight was way back on the 11th of June in 2005. He took on Kevin McBride at the MCI Center in Washington and had to retire hurt.
Tyson stands at five foot ten inches (178cm), which is four inches shorter than Logan, and he has a reach of 70.9 inches (180cm), which is close to five inches shorter than the reach of Paul. This will obviously give him a disadvantage over his younger counterpart since he will have to get in closer to land his punches. However, if the fight goes ahead, this will not be the first time that he has stepped into the ring with an opponent that has an obvious height and reach advantage over him, and his record shows that it has not had that much of a negative impact on his career.
Tyson fights using a traditional orthodox stance, which means that, just like Paul, his right hand is dominant when he is fighting. In his entire career, he has boxed in a total of 215 rounds, which means that his professional fights last an average of 3.8 rounds.
Our Prediction for the Mike Tyson vs Logan Paul Fight
So, if this fight does go ahead at some stage in April or May, how do we think that the fight will pan out? Well, although no bookies are offering odds for it yet because there is no scheduled date, we would not be surprised to see Iron Mike as the favourite to win. Despite the fact that he is now close to 56 years old, he has only been classified as the underdog once in his professional boxing career. This was against Lennox Lewis in 2002, and he was knocked out cold that day.
We will be the first to admit that when it was announced that Tyson would be fighting Roy Jones Junior at the end of 2020 that we were a bit sceptical to say the least. Both of these fighters have had great careers, and we did not want to see either of them embarrass themselves or get hurt, as what happened when Evander Hollyfield fought Vitor Belfort in September of 2021.
However, we must say that Tyson looked sharp and fit during that performance. Despite his age, his body looked in top condition. Although, as announced by the California Athletic Commission, there was a truce between the two fighters not to go for head shots that could end up in a knockout. In our opinion, it looked like Iron Mike could have knocked out his opponent if he wanted to, and if there is no such clause in his fight with Paul, then that could end up being the result.
Paul impressed a lot of people when he managed to go eight rounds with Mayweather, but his breathing looked laboured at the halfway stage, and he looked unsteady on his feet towards the end. Also, at one stage, after a taking a blow, it looked like Mayweather held him on his feet. What should be of concern for Logan Paul supporters is that he took a number of big shots to the head in that bout despite the fact that Mayweather did not kick into high gear. If Tyson, who is heavier by 60 pounds, lands such shots, then Paul could be in huge trouble.
We have to give Paul credit for his strong jabs and his ability to be able to absorb punches and tie things up when he realises he is in trouble. However, if there are no stipulations in the contract that state that head shots are not allowed and it is a regular boxing fight that is scheduled to last eight rounds, then we think that there is a really good chance that Tyson will knock Paul to the canvas, and he will not be able to recover from it. In his fight against Roy Jones Junior, he looked fast and had plenty of power in his punches, and if Paul slows down a bit because he comes out too fast or because he takes some shots to the body, then he might be looking at stars come Round 5.
Our prediction for the fight if it goes ahead: Tyson to win via knockout.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is the Logan Paul Vs Mike Tyson Fight?
At this moment in time, we do not yet know when this fight will take place. There is even a chance that it will not happen. When we know more, we will come back to this page and update it with the necessary information. As soon as we have odds available for it, we will input a table for you.
Who Will Win This Fight?
There are no odds out yet, but if the fight is scheduled then we expect to see Tyson as the favourite to win the fight with the bookmakers. This is something that we agree with because Tyson looked in top-quality condition during his last fight at the end of 2020, despite being 54 years old at the time. If he enters the ring in a similar condition against Paul, then we see one outcome and that is a knockout win for Iron Mike.
