⚡ Canelo Alvarez Overview
Canelo Alvarez has had 65 fights in his professional career to date with the Mexican winning 61 of them, losing 2 and drawing 2.
Of the 61 wins Canelo has had 39 have come by way of knock-out. His only defeats have come against Floyd Mayweather back in 2013 at light middleweight and in 2022 against Dmitry Bivol for the WBA light heavyweight title. The 34-year-old has had four Unanimous Decision victories since that loss to Bivol, with the latest of those wins coming against Jaime Munguia in May in Las Vegas, his only fight so far in 2024.

⭐ Edgar Berlanga Overview
Edgar Berlanga from Brooklyn New York has had 22 fights so far in his professional boxing career. He has had an unbeaten start to his career, winning all 22 fights so far, with 17 coming by way of knockout. The 27-year-old is viewed by many as a rising star of the sport but this fight against Canelo in Vegas on September 14th will be his fist title fight and his first PPV event also. Berlanga has had just the one fight in 2024, beating Belfast fighter Padraig McCrory by TKO in the sixth round of their fight in February in Orlando.
McCrory was actually the second consecutive Irish fighter Berlanga had defeated after he beat Jason Quigley from Donegal by Unanimous Decision back in June 2023 in New York.

💥 Alvarez vs Berlanga Fight: The Long Road to the Match
As Berlanga steps into the unknown in terms of this fight being the rising star’s first title fight, the opponent he faces could not be any tougher than the legendary four weight World Champion, Canelo Alvarez.
Alvarez is facing into an eighth defence of one of his super middleweight belts when he puts the WBC, WBO and WBA titles on the line against Berlanga in Vegas, a fight that could have been for the undisputed Super middleweight titles had Canelo not been stripped of the IBF belt for taking this Berlanga fight, instead of a bout with the IBF’s No 1 mandatory challenger, William Scull.
Berlanga has already declared that the fight on September 14th is going to be “spectacular” while for Canelo, if he can get through Berlanga, the prospect of a lucrative showdown with Terence Crawford may move one step closer to reality.

🏆 Fighters History
Canelo is deservedly the overwhelming favourite to defend his WBC, WBO and WBA Super middleweight titles in Las Vegas on September 14th but the up-and-coming Edgar Berlanga should not be underestimated. The New Yorker started his career with sixteen consecutive first round knockouts and certainly appears to have the confidence to make a statement on September 14th.
He has had only one more KO in his last six outings however, and in Canelo he faces just about as tough a task as there is in professional boxing.
Canelo has recovered from his defeat to Dmitry Bivol in 2022 by winning his four fights since that loss by unanimous decision but has failed to beat an opponent by stoppage since 2021, although it should be said he has achieved knockdowns in three of his last four fights.
Canelo has far greater in-ring experience than Berlanga and that should tell on September 14th. Anything Berlanga brings to the table Canelo has seen before, and even though Berlanga has good power and size, Alvarez is one of the best counter punchers in the sport and should be capable of laying enough traps over the course of the fight to take his record to 62-2-2.
Canelo’s experience and ring craft could see him earn his first stoppage victory in almost three years, but I think the most likely outcome is victory for Alvarez by unanimous decision.
